Salary: $28/hr. - $35/hr.

We are seeking an Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Apprentice Technician for a direct hire opportunity in Orangeville, UT.

The I&C Apprentice Technician participates in a structured four-level development program designed to build technical proficiency through formal training, qualification-based learning, hands-on field experience, and mentorship from experienced I&C Technicians and Supervisors.

The apprenticeship program develops the skills necessary to support industrial instrumentation, process controls, electrical systems, automation, and nuclear-grade equipment reliability.

This role is ideal for a technically driven individual who thrives in a fast-paced, high-performance environment where precision, problem-solving, teamwork, and attention to detail are critical. Apprentices will progressively take on greater responsibility while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, configuration control, and procedural compliance.

Key Responsibilities
Instrumentation & Controls Maintenance

  • Perform maintenance activities in accordance with established safety, quality assurance, security, cybersecurity, and operational requirements.
  • Inspect, maintain, calibrate, troubleshoot, repair, modify, and install instrumentation and control systems.
  • Perform preventive, predictive, corrective, and emergent maintenance on critical I&C equipment.
  • Troubleshoot electrical, electronic, pneumatic, digital, and process control systems.
Calibration & Testing
Calibrate, test, and verify the operation of instrumentation, including:
  • Pressure and differential pressure transmitters
  • Temperature, flow, and level transmitters
  • RTDs and thermocouples
  • Process switches
  • Control valves, actuators, and positioners
  • Digital field instruments and monitoring systems
Perform instrument loop checks, functional testing, signal verification, and equipment restoration activities.
Installation & Technical Support
  • Install, terminate, inspect, and test instrument wiring, tubing, fittings, and associated components.
  • Support commissioning, startup testing, equipment modifications, system upgrades, and reliability improvement initiatives.
  • Support planned outages, emergent troubleshooting, and other time-sensitive maintenance activities.
Diagnostic & Calibration Equipment
Utilize precision diagnostic and calibration equipment, including:
  • Digital multimeters
  • Process calibrators
  • Pressure calibrators
  • Temperature simulators
  • HART communicators
  • Specialized instrumentation test equipment
Technical Documentation
Read and interpret technical documentation, including:
  • Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
  • Instrument loop diagrams
  • Electrical schematics
  • Logic diagrams
  • Equipment drawings
  • Technical manuals
Maintain accurate documentation, including:
  • Work packages
  • Calibration records
  • Inspection reports
  • Equipment history records
Safety, Quality & Collaboration
  • Apply configuration control, Foreign Material Exclusion (FME), housekeeping, and human performance practices.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, Quality Assurance, and other teams to support safe and reliable facility performance.
  • Complete all required technical training, qualifications, and apprenticeship milestones.

Basic Qualifications
  • Associate degree in Instrumentation, Electronics, Electrical Technology, Nuclear Technology, Automation, or a related technical field preferred; equivalent military or technical training may also be considered.
  • 2+ years of experience preferred in industrial maintenance, instrumentation, electrical systems, controls, automation, manufacturing, power generation, process industries, or a military technical environment.
  • Experience with electrical systems, automation equipment, instrumentation, or industrial controls preferred.
  • Ability to obtain required facility access authorization and successfully complete all required training and qualification programs.
