Tesla s Cell Infrastructure team is looking for an experienced Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Commissioning Project Manager to lead a team through scoping, budget estimation, scheduling, execution, and close out of projects. This role specializes in the commissioning controls associated with industrial, mechanical, process, electrical, life safety, and facility management systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong field intensive background in quality control, pre-commissioning, loop checks, programming, commissioning, start up, SOO validation, and troubleshooting of instrumentation and controls systems. The candidate will coordinate and support execution of commissioning in the field in Tesla's Cell Manufacturing Facility and other special projects. Systems includes but are not limited to: manufacturing equipment, hydronics, compressed air, wastewater, HVAC, chemical, and life safety systems. Experience in cleanroom environments such as semiconductor, pharmaceutical, and healthcare facilities is preferred. As a project manager you will be responsible for planning and execution of commissioning projects, scheduling, budgeting, design reviews, risk management, procurement coordination, planning work, managing work in the field, and troubleshooting system performance issues. It requires technical expertise, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to effectively support multiple teams.This role has a travel expectancy of up to 25%.

  • Lead assigned commissioning projects and perform all phases from design, scoping, scheduling, execution, startup, to turnover
  • Maintain communications regarding schedule, budget, and progress updates with key stakeholders
  • Develop commissioning plans, checklists, field reports, schedule, budget, and other technical documents related to commissioning
  • Perform field walks and quality inspections to confirm scopes of work are installed per design drawings and specifications
  • Participation in Construction Completion walkdown to ensure a completed system is handed over to commissioning team. Developing deficiencies lists and participate in commissioning completion walkdowns with facilities operations and maintenance teams
  • Configure, calibrate and perform loop checks on a variety of instrumentation and control systems, including sensors, transmitters, actuators, 3rd party package equipment, PLC panels and power supply panels
  • Work closely with integration team to coordinate PLC programming and DCS screen development. Perform startup of VFDs, ECMs, power monitoring systems, and IP based devices. Support mechanical/process commissioning team during C&E and SOO testing
  • Degree in Engineering, or Technical Certificate in Instrumentation & Controls, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 10 years field experience with 4 years in project management
  • Strong background in all aspects of scope management including, scheduling, budgeting, and documentation
  • Experience working in manufacturing, cleanroom, biomedical, or similar environments
  • Ability to lead a team of technicians to meet project milestones. Setup 3rd party support with external vendors to support burst needs, manage contractors on-site, own budget and manpower loading
  • Ability to understand design drawings: layout plans, Wiring Diagrams, installation details, SLD's, PFD's and P&ID's. Proficient in the installation, configuration, calibration, and maintenance of instrumentation and control systems. Strong understanding of PLCs, DCS, SCADA systems, and other automation technologies
  • Strong critical thinking, problem solving, and communication skills
