Trillium Professional is now seeking an Instrumentation & Controls Design Engineer for direct‑hire in Huntsville, AL.Annual salary is $110‑130k/year.Job SummaryDesigns, develops, modifies and evaluates instrumentation and control (I&C) and electrical systems and equipment for industrial applications.Focused on design of process systems and mechanical equipment in nuclear power plants, commercial and government nuclear fuel enrichment and processing plants, chemical plants, refineries, and power plants.Prepares design and procurement specifications, design basis documents, system design descriptions, proposals, white papers, trade studies, drawings (schematics, wiring diagrams, control logic diagrams) and calculations.Develops and delivers presentations (e.g., PowerPoint) to colleagues, customers and management.Applies motion control engineering, control system design, PLC programming and HMI development, utilizing Rockwell Automation RSLogix/Studio 5000; experience with Siemens or Honeywell is a plus.Selects components and equipment based on specification analysis and reliability, and may review vendor capability to support product development.Uses computer‑assisted engineering, design and modeling software including MATLAB to perform assignments.Demonstrates the ability to work on complex issues where detailed evaluation of variable factors is required, and may supervise the activities of others.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesEngineer and design plant computer systems.Program PLCs using Rockwell Automation RSLOGIX/Studio 5000; Siemens SIMATIC Step 7 is a plus.Develop HMI using Rockwell Automation RSLOGIX/Studio 5000.Write strong technical documents: design and procurement specifications, design basis documents, system description documents, white papers, trade studies, and presentations.Prepare proposals, scopes of work, cost and schedule estimates, and basis of estimates.Create functional control logic diagrams, block diagrams, wiring diagrams, and schematics, and prepare associated narratives.Develop test strategies, devices, systems, plans, and procedures.Plan and implement research methodology and procedures applying electrical theory to engineering projects.Analyze equipment to establish operating data, conduct experimental tests, and evaluate results.Operate engineering and design software such as AutoCAD, SMAP 3D, SolidWorks, Visio, MATLAB.Prepare and review technical drawings and specifications of instrumentation, controls and electrical systems to ensure conformity to standards and customer requirements.Generate architecture for functional components and support product architecture.Deliver hardware designs through prototype, beta, and production release in accordance with product development processes and quality practices.Troubleshoot and perform failure analysis of existing products.Participate in technical design reviews and peer reviews.Compile data and write reports on engineering studies and projects.Document solutions with documentation, flowcharts, layouts, diagrams, and charts.Collect, analyze, and summarize development and service issues.Maintain awareness of advanced technology and its applicability to company products.Create statements of work, related schedules, budgets, and estimating labor, material, and construction costs.Brief others on deliverables, status, and progress.Be available for work during evenings and weekends as needed; work is on‑site.QualificationsStrong understanding of engineering fundamentals and principles.Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, etc.).Ability to design and engineer instrumentation and control (I&C) and electrical systems.Previous commercial, DOE, or nuclear experience is a strong plus.Performs PLC programming and HMI design using Rockwell Automation RSLogix/Studio 5000.Designs and engineers motion‑control systems.Integrates control systems with Adams Hexagon using MATLAB.Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, mechatronics engineering, or related field and 2‑4 years of directly related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.Successful completion of the NCEES Fundamentals of Engineering Exam preferred.Willingness to acquire PE license is a strong plus.U.S. citizenship with ability to attain/maintain government security clearance.Other Skills and AbilitiesBasic knowledge of ISO and/or AS9100.Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing/6 Sigma/Kaizen.Knowledge of specific engineering software and ERP systems.PlusesAbility to use electrical analysis packages such as ETAP or SKM for load flow, short‑circuit, harmonic analysis, motor starting, AC and DC arc‑flash studies, and protection/coordination studies for low‑voltage systems.Experience with the nuclear‑qualified version of ETAP.Familiarity with industry standards NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, NFPA 79, UL 508A, MIL‑EMI, ISA, NUREGs, IEEE grounding standards, IEEE color books, IEC, and DOE electrical standards.Certified UL‑508A Manufacturer Technical Representative (MTR).Ability to conceptualize high‑complexity electrical designs for nuclear and non‑nuclear projects during the bid phase.Ability to prepare engineering and design documents requiring the rigor and detail of NQA‑1, 10CFR50 Appendix B, or equivalent.Effective oral and written communication with teammates, supervisors, engineers, designers in other disciplines, and non‑engineering personnel.Trillium is an Equal Opportunity Employer.#J-18808-Ljbffr
