Sterling Engineering is looking for a Senior Instrumentation & Controls Engineer to join a growing engineering organization supporting commercial nuclear power projects. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced I&C engineer with a strong background in nuclear systems design, NRC compliance, and safety-related instrumentation to work on complex, industry-leading projects while enjoying the flexibility of a fully remote role.

Job Summary:
The Senior Instrumentation & Controls Engineer will lead the design and development of safety-related and non-safety-related I&C systems for commercial nuclear power projects. This role is responsible for preparing and reviewing engineering deliverables, ensuring compliance with NRC regulations and industry standards, providing technical leadership, and coordinating with multidisciplinary engineering teams and external stakeholders.

Job Duties:
  • Lead the design and review of instrumentation and control systems for commercial nuclear facilities.
  • Prepare and review engineering deliverables including one-line diagrams, logic diagrams, system specifications, calculations, engineering studies, reports, and hazard analyses.
  • Develop system design requirements while considering manufacturability, serviceability, testing, and installation.
  • Interpret project requirements and develop technical design solutions.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers.
  • Coordinate engineering activities with multidisciplinary teams, subcontractors, suppliers, and clients.
  • Support design, testing, and installation of process control and automation systems.
  • Ensure compliance with NRC regulations, quality standards, and applicable industry codes.
  • Serve as a technical interface during regulatory audits, meetings, and Requests for Additional Information (RAIs).
  • Support project planning, scheduling, and engineering execution.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in commercial nuclear power within a design and/or systems engineering organization.
  • Experience designing and installing nuclear Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) systems.
  • Strong understanding of NRC regulations and their application to nuclear system design.
  • Experience developing testing and installation procedures for nuclear instrumentation systems.
  • Working knowledge of reactor physics, neutron monitoring systems, shielding analysis, criticality concepts, and radiation dose analysis.
  • Experience with safety-related I&C protection systems preferred.
  • Familiarity with IEEE standards including 497, 603, 308, 379, 384, 323, 344, and 1050.
  • Strong technical writing, communication, project management, and presentation skills.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or advanced degree is a plus.
  • Must be eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810 requirements.
