Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Engineer
Location: Boise, ID
Employment Type: Contract-to-Hire
We are seeking an Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Engineer for a contract-to-hire opportunity supporting advanced manufacturing and semiconductor facility projects in Boise, ID. This position will support the design and implementation of automation, process control, instrumentation, and facility monitoring systems for complex industrial environments.
Responsibilities
• Design instrumentation, controls, and automation systems for advanced manufacturing and industrial facilities.
• Develop and maintain P&IDs, wiring diagrams, control drawings, and related design documentation.
• Perform instrument and control valve sizing and prepare equipment and instrument data sheets.
• Develop control narratives, sequences of operation, and control system documentation.
• Support PLC- and SCADA-based control system design and integration.
• Review vendor drawings, equipment submittals, and technical documentation for compliance with project requirements.
• Coordinate I&C designs with electrical, mechanical, process, and other engineering disciplines.
• Participate in technical discussions with clients, vendors, contractors, and project teams.
• Provide engineering support during construction, startup, testing, and commissioning activities.
• Support work in active sustaining construction environments while maintaining applicable safety and project standards.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
• 4+ years of instrumentation and controls engineering experience.
• Working knowledge of PLC- and SCADA-based control systems, instrumentation, and process controls.
• Experience developing P&IDs, control drawings, instrumentation specifications, and related design documentation.
• Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to effectively coordinate and work within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Must be fully authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications
• Engineer in Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) certification.
• Experience with Siemens, Omron, DeviceNet, or similar industrial control platforms and networks.
• Familiarity with NFPA 70, UL 508A, and applicable industry codes and standards.
• Experience supporting semiconductor, data center, pharmaceutical, advanced manufacturing, or similar technically complex facilities.
• Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, and/or Navisworks.
• Experience with facility monitoring systems, toxic gas monitoring systems, fire alarm systems, or SCADA systems.
