Summary

The IE Tech installs, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs the plant's electrical, instrumentation, automation, and mechanical systems. This role calls for someone who is equally comfortable with modern PLC and DCS systems and with old-school, hands-on troubleshooting — using prints, a meter, and good electrical logic to find problems when the computer can't.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, repair, calibrate, and maintain electrical and instrumentation systems
  • Troubleshoot PLCs, DCS, motor controls, MCCs, VFDs, and process equipment
  • Diagnose problems by hand — using prints, schematics, and a multimeter — when software tools don't tell the full story
  • Calibrate flow, pressure, level, and temperature devices and control valves
  • Perform preventive and predictive maintenance
  • Read and interpret schematics, P&IDs, loop drawings, and ladder logic
  • Assist with PLC programming and control system upgrades
  • Keep maintenance, calibration, and spare parts records up to date
  • Participate in the on-call rotation

Required Skills

  • Strong hands-on troubleshooting — able to trace circuits, find faults, and solve problems without relying on a computer
  • Working knowledge of PLCs, DCS, automation, and industrial electrical systems
  • Able to troubleshoot 480V systems, motors, relays, contactors, and control circuits
  • Able to read blueprints, electrical prints, and schematics
  • Solid understanding of electrical theory and control logic
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Journeyman electrician license or equivalent industrial experience preferred
  • Willing to work overtime, rotating schedules, and on-call assignments

Preferred Experience

  • 1–2 years of vocational training or related industrial maintenance experience
  • Allen-Bradley PLCs and HMIs
  • DeltaV or other DCS platforms
  • Instrument calibration and analytical equipment
  • CMMS maintenance systems

Tools Used

Multimeters, megohmmeters, amp probes, calibration equipment, hand and power tools, and PLC programming software.
