The mission of the Department of Insurance is to enforce the insurance laws and regulations of the state impartially, honestly and expeditiously.

The Louisiana Department of Insurance is seeking a qualified professional to serve as an Insurance Supervisor in the Office of Consumer Advocacy & Diversity. This position supervises professional staff and supports the administration of programs and initiatives that promote consumer advocacy, insurance education, outreach, and access to insurance-related resources and services. The position helps ensure the effective delivery of services to Louisiana consumers while supporting the Department's mission of consumer protection and engagement.

Minimum Qualifications

Six years of experience in insurance, administrative services, investigations, or law enforcement: OR

Six years of full-time work experience in any field plus three years of experience in insurance, administrative services, investigations, or law enforcement; OR

A bachelors degree plus three years of experience in insurance, administrative services, investigations, or law enforcement; OR

An advanced degree plus two years of experience in insurance, administrative services, investigations, or law enforcement.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:

Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

As an Insurance Supervisor in the Office of Consumer Advocacy & Diversity, you will/may:

  • Provide oversight and leadership to professional staff by assigning and monitoring work, reviewing work products, and providing guidance, training, and feedback.
  • Assist with the planning, coordination, and administration of consumer advocacy, outreach, education, and engagement activities.
  • Evaluate and analyze reports regarding industry compliance, consumer concerns, emerging trends, and unfair insurance practices, and coordinate with other Department offices and divisions to identify appropriate remedies.
  • Meet with insurance company representatives, government officials, community organizations, consumer groups, agents, agencies, and members of the public to provide guidance and assistance regarding insurance-related matters.
  • Develop and deliver presentations, training sessions, and educational materials to support consumer awareness and understanding of insurance products, services, and consumer protections.
  • Research and monitor state and federal laws, regulations, and industry developments affecting consumers and insurance markets.
  • Prepare correspondence, reports, recommendations, and other written materials in response to consumer inquiries and programmatic needs.
  • Assist with the development, implementation, and evaluation of policies, procedures, and initiatives that support the goals of the Office of Consumer Advocacy & Diversity.
  • Manage employee leave requests, time statements, and performance evaluations through the CPM process.
  • Present reports, provide testimony, and respond to questions before legislative committees, professional associations, working groups, task forces, and community stakeholders.
