Position Summary The Intake and Assessment Specialist is responsible for providing initial screening assessment, referral, and follow-up services for individuals seeking admission to Harbor Light programs. This role includes evaluating clients eligibility, maintaining accurate records, coordinating with external agencies, and ensuring clients receive appropriate care and support.

Essential Responsibilities • Provide screening assessment, referral, and follow-up services for individuals seeking admission to Harbor Light programs. • Complete Screening Assessment Referral and Follow-Up data reporting forms. • Assess potential clients to determine their ability to pay sliding fee scales. • Refer to area Central Diagnostic and Referral Agency for interim services to those individuals who cannot be admitted to treatment within 48 hours. • Maintain waiting lists for State-funded clients. • Submit Capacity Matrix Forms to Site Administrator. • Serve as a liaison between local probation, parole departments, Central Diagnostic Referral agencies, and other outside referral sources. • Establish linkage with a comprehensive community network of health and social service providers. • Maintain a working knowledge of the American Society of Addiction Medicine manual and the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV TR). • Complete the intake process for clients within established time frames as indicated for each program, including completion of all required critical documents. • Provide treatment satisfaction surveys at admission and determine accessibility and efficiency of services. • Follow up with referrals of detox clients to assist in developing aftercare plans.

Qualifications Education Must possess a Masters degree in the Behavioral Science, Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or Addiction Studies with significant coursework in substance abuse treatment.

Experience Minimum 18 months of experience working in the field of substance abuse, plus at least the equivalent of a 6-month Masters-level internship in the field of substance abuse.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities • Ability to determine needs and work with multi-problem individuals. • Ability to develop rapport, trust, and confidence in client relationships. • Must possess good communication and teamwork skills. • Strong organizational skills. • TB Test and police clearance required. • Authorization to work within the United States. • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365, email, and internet. • Experience using Electronic Medical Records preferred.

Certificates and Licenses Must possess: • MCBAP (Michigan Certification Board for Addiction Professionals) • CAADC (Certified Addiction Counselor, Assistant) • CADC-M (Certified Addiction Counselor, Master) • CADC (Certified Addiction Counselor) • Approved MCBAP Development Plan • State of Michigan license (LLMSW, LMSW LPC, LLPC) • Complete Safe From Harm training within 30 days of employment and keep current as needed.
