JOB TITLE: Community-Based Family Services-Intake Therapist

REQUIRED EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- Graduation from an accredited program with a Master’s degree in a human services or related field and two years of progressive substance abuse and/or mental health counseling experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Possession of North Carolina licensure (or associate license) as one of the following: Licensed Psychologist, Licensed Psychological Associate, Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor, Licensed Clinical Social Worker
POSITION HIGHLIGHTS:
- Provides independent diagnostic and psycho-social evaluations and therapy services which focus on complicated mental health issues, family issues, parenting issues, adolescent issues and substance abuse and addiction issues and their impact on daily living and individual and family relationships.
- Evaluates the client and family situation and their ability to deal with their problems; conducts an in-depth comprehensive clinical interview to determine psycho-social, mental health, substance use, and medical needs and documents diagnoses and recommendations; develops a person-centered plan based on this assessment; provides ongoing monitoring, assessment and updates to the Person-Centered and Crisis Plans.
- Complete assessments and other clinical documentation to submit for authorization to assist in getting client’s services in a timelier manner. They will be responsible for the intakes that need completed immediately, assisting teams that have a high number of intakes at one time, and getting clients established on a new team/lead.
- Assist with initial authorizations and reauthorizations to ensure sessions are billable and CBFS is completing services with an active authorization.
- Assist office staff to determine appropriate clinical assessments that are billable.
- Works with emergency referrals, conducts community educational workshops, provides professional services to referrals from the judicial system and statewide institutions.
- Provides First Responder functions and services; develops and updates Crisis Plans; and responds telephonically or, when needed, face-to-face to crisis situations.
- Responsible for coordinating the initial assessment and developing the youth’s Person-Centered Plan (PCP).
- Subject to inside environmental conditions
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
- Meets requirements under 10A NCAC 27G.0104 as a Qualified Professional for Mental Health.
- Considerable knowledge of the practical application of different therapeutic approaches, group dynamics, crisis intervention, and family therapy.
- Considerable knowledge of community resources.
- Knowledge of the psycho-social, socioeconomic and behavioral problems and their treatment.
- Knowledge of laws, regulations, and policies which govern the program.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, disease processes and psycho-pharmacology.
- Skill in establishing rapport with a client and/or family and applying techniques of assessing psycho-social, behavioral, and psychological aspects of the client.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and members of civic, medical, social, and religious organizations.
- Ability to formulate treatment goals and to record concisely required documentation.
- Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of stooping, reaching, and walking, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, and performing repetitive motions.
- Must be able to perform sedentary work exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly or frequently to move objects.
- Must possess the visual acuity to perform extensive reading.
- Must have valid driver’s license and be able to work in community settings.
