    The Appleton Area School District has an opening for an Integrated 4K Special Education Teacher at Jefferson Elementary (50%) and a Cross Categorical Special Education Teacher at Richmond Elementary (50%) beginning on 08/24/2026.

    Integrated 4K Teacher Description:

    The individual in this position will provide developmentally appropriate instruction to 4-year-old kindergarten children with disabilities consistent with the 4K curriculum and with their Individual Education Program (IEP) in fully integrated in 4K classrooms.

    The 4K teacher will be expected to understand the developmental stages of the 4-year-old child and developmentally appropriate practices using the Wisconsin Model Early Learning Standards to reinforce the AASD 4K curriculum. The successful candidate must be able to infuse literacy intentionally and intensively throughout the day and provide activities and pre-reading techniques that enhance and produce maximum vocabulary acquisition. Communicates constructively with interpreters, paraprofessionals, itinerant teachers, or other professional staff. Assists in planning and implementing parent meetings, special programs and training events to support Appleton Community 4K parent outreach activities.

    • Deliver an enhanced, developmentally appropriate AASD 4K Curriculum
    • Actively participate in the planning and implementation of experiential learning with the 4K regular education teacher
    • Understand the developmental stages of the four year old child and developmentally appropriate practices
    • Use the Wisconsin Model Early Learning Standards (WMELS) to reinforce the AASD 4K curriculum, (WMELS training is a plus)
    • Infuse literacy intentionally and intensively throughout the day
    • Provide activities and reading techniques that enhance and produce maximum vocabulary acquisition
    • Spend a majority of class time talking and interacting with children in a facilitative manner
    • Use ongoing progress monitoring to determine needs of individual students and lesson planning. Daily lesson plans reflect the AASD 4K Curriculum, include the interests of the children and are appropriate learning experiences based on their needs and strengths
    • Provide social-emotional development and supports using facets of the Wisconsin Pyramid Model (Pyramid model training is a plus)
    • Interact with children in a respectful manner, and practice active listening skills. While working with acting out children will remain calm and patient, developing and implementing where necessary behavior support and intervention plans.
    • Organize the classroom environment to support learning through play with materials that are organized and available for use by children. Ensures environmental assessments indicate a high functioning learning environment.
    • Routinely use newsletters/calendars/parent boards to provide families with information regarding the Appleton Community 4K program, current learning activities and child development.
    • Assist in planning and implementing parent meetings, special programs and training events to support Appleton Community 4K parent outreach activities.
    • Work effectively with all children and their families, including ELL and special needs children
    • Communicates constructively with interpreters, paraprofessionals, itinerant teachers or other professional staff. Uses problem-solving, conflict-resolution processes, and communication strategies. Is able to maintain composure in difficult situations.
    • Works cooperatively with families and professional and support staff within the 4K program.
    • Takes responsibility for own professional growth and participation in Appleton Community 4K trainings and professional development offerings.
    • Maintains confidentiality
    • Physically able to withstand the rigors of working with four-year-old students, being able to get on their level, stand, bend, and lift, if necessary

    Certification: Certification must include grades PK-5:Early Childhood Special Education (1809), Cross Categorical Special Education (1801/2801)
