The technician executes printer integration activities primarily through MES work order instructions, supported by engineering drawings, specifications, BOMs, controlled documents, and applicable change-management systems. The role performs precise installation, alignment, fastening, routing, connection, verification, troubleshooting, and rework while maintaining configuration control, traceability, workmanship, and build quality.

As part of the Long Beach factory launch and ramp, the Integration Technician works with Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Sub-Assembly, Supply Chain, and Operations to resolve integration challenges and improve the build process. The role provides hands-on feedback that supports repeatable work instructions, standard work, tooling, fixtures, and integration practices.

This position may be filled at the Technician II or Technician III level based on demonstrated knowledge, experience, technical capability, independence, complexity of work, and technical leadership.

The Role

Printer Integration

  • Execute MES work order instructions to integrate complete large-format LPBF printers from completed sub-assemblies and integration hardware.
  • Follow released work instructions, BOMs, drawings, specifications, and controlling documents to perform installation, fastening, torqueing, routing, alignment, adjustment, and connection activities.
  • Integrate mechanical structures, electrical systems, pneumatics, inert-gas systems, powder handling, motion systems, sensing, controls, and other printer interfaces.
  • Establish and verify interfaces between major sub-assemblies, structures, modules, and components.
  • Perform precision mechanical and electromechanical assembly using calibrated torque tools, hand tools, power tools, and precision measurement equipment.
  • Verify alignment, clearances, fits, mounting conditions, hardware identification, orientation, configuration, and installation requirements.
  • Route cables, tubing, hoses, harnesses, and other system interfaces; install and connect sensors, actuators, motors, drives, electrical components, and pneumatic hardware.
  • Perform required dimensional, alignment, torque, installation, and workmanship verification and maintain accurate as-built configuration and traceability.

Equipment & Material Handling

  • Use approved cranes, forklifts, telehandlers, hoists, lifting fixtures, and other material-handling equipment to position and install large or heavy assemblies.
  • Safely rig, move, position, and install assemblies using approved equipment and procedures.
  • Follow applicable rigging, lifting, LOTO, machine-safety, and material-handling requirements.

Troubleshooting & Rework

  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electromechanical, pneumatic, motion, and system-interface integration issues at a complexity appropriate to experience and level.
  • Diagnose alignment, fit, tolerance, interference, routing, component-interface, installation-sequence, and configuration issues.
  • Perform approved repair, rework, adjustment, replacement, and corrective activities.
  • Identify discrepancies between released requirements and as-built conditions and escalate issues requiring Engineering evaluation, disposition, or clarification.
  • Support Engineering with root-cause analysis, corrective actions, engineering changes, deviations, nonconformances, and configuration-management activities as appropriate to level.
  • Verify hardware and integration work following corrective actions, repair, rework, or adjustment.

Manufacturing Documentation & Configuration Control

  • Complete MES work orders, digital travelers, checklists, inspection records, and other required manufacturing documentation.
  • Use applicable engineering change, deviation, nonconformance, and configuration-management systems to document and control changes.
  • Verify integration work against MES instructions, drawings, BOMs, specifications, acceptance criteria, and configuration requirements.
  • Maintain accurate as-built configuration, hardware identification, revision control, and traceability.

Manufacturing & Process Improvement

  • Identify gaps, errors, ambiguities, or impractical steps within MES work instructions and supporting documentation.
  • Provide hands-on technical feedback to Manufacturing and Design Engineering to improve MES work instructions, standard work, checklists, and integration procedures.
  • Identify recurring integration issues and opportunities to improve build sequence, tooling, fixtures, material presentation, workstation layout, and integration flow.
  • Partner with Manufacturing and Design Engineering to improve buildability, accessibility, manufacturability, quality, and repeatability.
  • Support factory installation, commissioning, qualification, process development, and printer build-ramp activities.
  • Identify constraints affecting build schedule, quality, or repeatability and support resolution.

Team & Cross-Functional Support

  • Work with Sub-Assembly, Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, and Operations to communicate technical issues, material constraints, build status, and integration risks.
  • Collaborate with other technicians during complex or unfamiliar integration activities and provide technical guidance as appropriate to level.
  • Support safe, repeatable, and scalable printer integration practices as factory operations ramp.
  • Maintain clean, organized, FOD-controlled work areas and follow applicable safety, workmanship, ESD, LOTO, rigging, and material-handling requirements.

Basic Qualifications
