Rutgers University - Newark, an urban public research anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise, is seeking an Interim Assistant Dean- Dir. of MSP.
Created in 1968, Rutgers Law School's Minority Student Program (MSP) is a nationally recognized model for opening the doors of the legal profession to students from disadvantaged backgrounds and underrepresented communities. Offering legal skills development, academic support, alumni mentoring and networking, and internship opportunities, MSP at Rutgers Law School was one of the first inclusion programs of its kind. MSP has been a leading force in diversifying both legal education and the legal profession, with over 3,000 MSP alumni who have served and excelled on the bench, in the U.S. Congress, in private practice, in major corporations, in government agencies, in legislative bodies, in public interest organizations, and in academic institutions throughout the country.
Following a searching examination of its roles and responsibilities as a legal institution within a declining urban community, the Rutgers-Newark law faculty voted to create MSP in 1968, with the goal of enrolling substantial numbers of students from historically underrepresented groups in the expectation that they would enrich the educational experience and become lawyers who would help provide legal representation and leadership in their communities. Originally geared towards students of color, MSP now welcomes any student, regardless of race or ethnicity, who can demonstrate a history of socioeconomic or educational disadvantage. As of June 2016, MSP is an integral part of the Camden location as well.

In 2015, the Rutgers Schools of Law at Camden and Newark merged to form a single Rutgers Law School, the only public law school in New Jersey and the largest in the Northeast. Rutgers Law School continues to operate in both its legacy locations, Camden and Newark, but as a single entity, with a single admissions process and unified admissions standards.

The final salary offer may be determined by several factors, including, but not limited to, the candidate's qualifications, experience, and expertise, and availability of department or grant funds to support the position. We also take into consideration market benchmarks, if and when appropriate, and internal equity to ensure fair compensation relative to the university's broader compensation structure. Position Status Full Time Working Hours 40 Daily Work Shift Work Arrangement
Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. The flexible work arrangements outlined in Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 are part of a pilot program that is effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2024. Therefore, there is no guarantee that this flexible work arrangement will continue beyond that date. Flexible work arrangements are not permanent, are subject to change or cancellation and contingent on the employee receiving approval in the FlexWork@RU Application System. Immunization Requirements
Under Policy 100.3.1 Immunization Policy for Covered Individuals, if employment will commence during Flu Season, Rutgers University may require certain prospective employees to provide proof that they are vaccinated against Seasonal Influenza for the current Flu Season, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption.
