Scion Nonprofit Staffing has been engaged to conduct a search for an Interim Controller for a respected, mission-driven nonprofit financial organization dedicated to strengthening communities through innovative lending and investment initiatives. This is a hybrid opportunity based in Chicago, Illinois, requiring three days per week onsite, including Tuesdays.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
Our client is seeking an experienced Interim Controller to provide financial leadership and operational continuity during an executive transition. This highly visible role will oversee accounting operations, financial reporting, compliance, and internal controls while partnering closely with executive leadership and supporting board-level financial activities. For the right individual, there is potential to be considered for the organization's permanent Chief Financial Officer opportunity.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead day-to-day accounting operations, financial reporting, and month-end and year-end close processes.
Ensure compliance with GAAP, nonprofit accounting standards, grant accounting requirements, and internal controls.
Prepare financial statements, oversee cash flow, support budgeting, and identify opportunities to improve financial processes.
Supervise and mentor the accounting team while fostering collaboration and accountability.
Partner with executive leadership and present financial reporting and analysis to board committees and organizational leadership.
Maintain financial stability and operational continuity throughout the executive transition.
QUALIFICATIONS:

$70.00-$72.00 per hour, based on experience.
