Position Summary:
The Interim Controller will provide hands-on leadership of the accounting and financial reporting function for a manufacturing plant during a transition period. This role will ensure accurate, timely financial reporting, maintain strong internal controls, and support operational and executive leadership with financial insight. The position is based primarily in Indianapolis with periodic travel to the manufacturing site in Canada.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee day-to-day accounting operations including general ledger, month-end close, inventory accounting, cost accounting, and fixed assets
Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statements in accordance with US GAAP
Manage and streamline the month-end close process; identify and implement process improvements
Lead manufacturing cost accounting activities, including standard costing, variance analysis, and inventory valuation
Partner with plant and operations leadership to analyze production costs, margins, and operational performance
Maintain and enhance internal controls; support audit requests and compliance requirements
Supervise and mentor accounting staff; provide leadership during organizational change
Support cash flow management, working capital analysis, and budgeting/forecasting as needed
Collaborate cross-functionally with FP&A, Operations, Supply Chain, and Corporate Finance
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA preferred
8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including manufacturing and cost accounting
Prior Controller or Interim Controller experience strongly preferred
Strong knowledge of US GAAP; experience with multi-location or cross-border operations a plus
Hands-on experience with ERP systems and advanced Excel skills
Proven ability to operate effectively in fast-paced, transitional environments
Strong leadership, communication, and business-partnering skills
Ability to travel occasionally (1-2 times monthly) to Canada.
