Interim Controller
Location: Schaumburg, IL(Hybrid – 2 days onsite per week)
Start Date: Immediate
Hourly Rate: 70+ depending on experience (negotiable)
Jefferson Wells, a Sikich company, is seeking an experienced Interim Controller to support a client engagement on a 3–6-month contract basis. This is a hands-on leadership role ideal for a finance professional who thrives in complex environments and enjoys improving processes and cleaning up accounting operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day controllership oversight for a mid-sized organization
- Lead and execute process improvement initiatives, including standardizing and streamlining accounting workflows
- Address and remediate highly manual, spreadsheet-driven processes
- Oversee and optimize a complex supplier rebate process
- Ensure accuracy and integrity of financial reporting across approximately $200M in financial flows and $30M in revenue
- Partner across functions to improve controls, documentation, and efficiency
- Support month-end close and related accounting activities as needed
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Controller or senior accounting leader, ideally in an interim or transformation capacity
- Strong hands-on approach—comfortable rolling up sleeves to execute as well as lead
- Demonstrated experience in process cleanup, documentation, and optimization
- Experience managing complex accounting processes (rebates, accruals, large transaction volumes, etc.)
- Advanced Excel skills required; ability to work within highly manual environments
- Experience with NetSuite is a plus, but not required
- Strong attention to detail, analytical mindset, and ability to work in fast-paced environments
