Interim Director of Accounting (Senior Accounting & Controls Lead)

Position Overview

Ledgent Finance & Accounting's client is currently seeking an Interim Director of Accounting to provide strategic and technical oversight of core accounting functions with a strong emphasis on internal controls, reconciliations, and financial accuracy. This senior-level role involves reviewing and validating the work of accounting staff while operating as an expert individual contributor rather than a direct people manager. The position plays a critical part in ensuring financial integrity, regulatory compliance, and reliable reporting for a complex, publicly traded environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide governance and quality review over daily accounting activities, including general ledger activity, monthly close processes, and accounts payable and receivable functions.
• Serve as a subject matter expert for internal controls, reconciliations, and SOX compliance, ensuring adherence to established control frameworks.
• Ensure accounting practices align with applicable tax regulations, financial reporting standards, and industry requirements.
• Apply advanced technical accounting guidance, including revenue recognition under ASC 606 and lease accounting under ASC 842.
• Collaborate with finance, operations, and other business partners to support budgeting, forecasting, and long-range financial planning efforts.
• Analyze and communicate financial results, trends, risks, and insights to leadership in a clear and concise manner.
• Support system integrity and financial close efficiency through effective use of ERP and financial close tools.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related discipline required.
• Minimum of 8 years of progressive accounting experience, including senior-level or leadership-equivalent responsibilities.
• Prior experience working within a publicly traded company environment.
• Demonstrated experience with SOX controls and internal control assessments.
• Strong technical accounting knowledge, particularly in ASC 606 and ASC 842.
• Hands-on experience with enterprise ERP systems; SAP S/4HANA strongly preferred, though comparable platforms such as Oracle are acceptable.
• Experience with BlackLine or similar financial close and reconciliation tools is preferred.

Compensation & Work Hours

Pay Range: $75 - $85 per hour

Location: Arizona
