Job Description

The Interior Architect leads the technical execution of interior architecture projects from concept design through construction administration within a dynamic, collaborative studio. This role focuses on delivering high-quality commercial interior environments by overseeing documentation quality, coordinating consultants, driving BIM and Revit workflows, and ensuring code compliance and constructability. The position offers the opportunity to work on innovative workplace and interior design projects across diverse markets, influence technical excellence, and mentor emerging professionals in a multidisciplinary design environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical delivery of commercial interiors projects from early design through construction administration, ensuring design intent is accurately translated into buildable solutions.
  • Manage BIM and Revit documentation for interior architecture projects, establishing and maintaining standards for model organization, drawing production, and coordination.
  • Coordinate with engineering and specialty consultants to integrate their work into cohesive construction documents and resolve technical issues collaboratively.
  • Oversee quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) reviews of drawings and specifications to maintain consistency, accuracy, and compliance with project standards and codes.
  • Ensure code compliance by researching and applying relevant building codes, life safety requirements, accessibility standards, and other regulatory guidelines throughout the project.
  • Serve as a key client contact for technical matters, communicating project requirements, schedules, and deliverables and responding to client feedback in a timely and professional manner.
  • Mentor and guide junior staff by providing technical direction, reviewing their work, and supporting their professional development in interior architecture and documentation.
  • Supervise technical production across project phases, including schematic design, design development, and construction documents, to ensure coordinated and well-detailed deliverables.
  • Collaborate closely with Project Designers, Project Managers, consultants, and clients to align technical solutions with design goals, budget, and schedule.
  • Participate in site visits to observe construction progress, verify conformance with documents, and address field conditions or contractor questions.
  • Perform construction administration tasks such as responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals and shop drawings, and preparing field reports and punch lists.
  • Contribute to specification development and coordination, aligning materials, systems, and products with design intent, performance requirements, and sustainability goals.
  • Support sustainable design implementation by integrating sustainable strategies and best practices into project documentation and detailing.
  • Assist with project budgeting and scheduling by providing technical input on scope, sequencing, and constructability considerations.
  • Support regulatory approvals by preparing and coordinating documentation required for permit submissions and responding to plan review comments.
  • Contribute to business development efforts as needed by providing technical expertise in interviews, proposals, and presentations for interior architecture projects.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor"s degree in Architecture is required.
  • Active Architectural License is preferred, or candidacy in the midst of licensure exams is required.
  • 8-12 years of professional architectural experience, with a focus on interior architecture and commercial interiors.
  • Strong commercial interiors experience, including workplace and corporate interiors projects.
  • Advanced proficiency in Revit, including BIM execution and production of coordinated construction documents.
  • Experience with construction documentation, including schematic design, design development, and construction document phases.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead the technical delivery of interior architecture projects from concept through construction administration.
  • Proficiency in coordinating multidisciplinary consultants and integrating their work into comprehensive project documentation.
  • Strong understanding of building codes, life safety, accessibility, and other regulatory requirements applicable to interior projects.
  • Experience with construction administration, including RFIs, submittals, site visits, and punch lists.
  • Ability to mentor and supervise junior staff, providing technical guidance and oversight.
  • Effective client interaction skills, including the ability to serve as a primary technical contact and manage expectations.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills to manage multiple tasks, schedules, and deliverables.
  • Proficiency in Revit-based BIM workflows for interiors projects.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Proficiency with AutoCAD for documentation and coordination.
  • Experience with SketchUp or similar tools for design development and visualization.
  • Experience in design development, conceptual design, and schematic design for interior architecture.
  • Rendering skills to support visualization of interior design concepts.
  • Experience in corporate interiors and workplace design across diverse markets.
  • Experience in interior architecture detailing and coordination of finishes, fixtures, and furnishings.
  • Exposure to sustainable design strategies and integration of sustainability into project documentation.
  • Experience working within a multidisciplinary design environment alongside architects, interior designers, and consultants.
  • Ability to contribute to business development efforts by supporting proposals and presentations with technical insight.
  • Interest in mentoring emerging professionals and contributing to a culture of technical excellence.

Work Environment

The role is based in a Philadelphia studio located in a vibrant urban setting with attractive city views and a modern, recently established office environment. The studio has grown rapidly over the past few years and operates at near full capacity with a close-knit team of approximately 45-50 professionals. The work environment emphasizes collaboration, with multidisciplinary teams working together on innovative workplace and interior design projects for sophisticated clients across diverse markets. The organization is recognized as a global architecture and design leader with decades of industry experience, a strong commitment to sustainability, and a focus on integrated design. The position offers a hybrid work environment that supports flexibility along with significant professional development opportunities and exposure to nationally recognized projects. The dress code is business casual to business professional, reflecting a polished yet approachable studio culture.

This is a Permanent position based out of PHILADELPHIA, PA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $90000.00 - $115000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
