Position Purpose

Provides engineering and technical support for power generation facilities, with responsibility for managing capital and maintenance projects, conducting equipment testing and analysis, and supporting safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations.

This role leads troubleshooting for operational issues, supports installation and commissioning activities, and contributes to the continuous improvement of plant performance.

Core Responsibilities

Note: This is not an all-inclusive list.

Manage capital and operations and maintenance (O&M) projects, including coordination of scope, schedule, and budget

Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external vendors and contractors to support project development and execution

Design and conduct tests on power plant equipment; analyze results and provide recommendations for performance improvement

Develop detailed test plans and procedures that ensure safety, operational continuity, and coordination across impacted teams

Troubleshoot plant equipment issues and recommend corrective actions to resolve operational and maintenance problems

Support installation, startup, and commissioning of new equipment; provide technical oversight and issue resolution

Analyze operating data and logs to identify trends, diagnose issues, and improve system performance

Contribute to the development of capital and O&M budgets by identifying needs and recommending projects

Assist in the development and implementation of standard operating procedures and training programs

Maintain and improve documentation control and change management standards for power plant systems

Participate in an on-call rotation to provide after-hours technical support

Skills and Technical Knowledge

Knowledge of power plant systems (boilers, turbines, generators, pumps, valves, steam systems) - Intermediate

Understanding of plant performance metrics (efficiency, heat rates, fuel characteristics) - Intermediate

Familiarity with control and instrumentation systems - Intermediate

Foundational to intermediate knowledge of electrical systems (relays, transformers, breakers, auxiliary systems)

Project management fundamentals (scope, schedule, budget coordination) - Intermediate

Data analysis and technical reporting - Intermediate

Troubleshooting and root cause analysis - Intermediate

Strong organizational and time management skills

Safety and compliance awareness (industrial and environmental) - Intermediate

Education

Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline from an accredited university

Valid driver's license required

Experience

Prefer seven or more years of experience in power generation or a related industrial environment

Ongoing learning through classes and seminars related to power plant and utility technologies

Maintains working knowledge of applicable construction and safety codes (ASME, ASTM), governmental regulations (NERC reliability standards), and company rules and procedures

In-person role based at power plant locations in Madison, WI
