Position Summary
The Summer Intern will assist the Sumner-Bonney Lake School District Capital Projects Department in supporting active public works and school construction projects during the summer construction season. The position is intended to provide meaningful exposure to the planning, coordination, administration, and execution of K-12 public works construction projects while supporting department operational needs.
The intern will gain hands-on experience in project management processes, construction administration, document controls, stakeholder communication, and field observation activities associated with school district capital improvement projects.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Assist with organization and maintenance of project documentation and digital files
- Support district plan room organization and document indexing efforts
- Participate in project meetings and prepare meeting summaries or notes
- Observe and assist with public works construction administration processes
- Track and organize submittals, RFIs, change orders, and closeout documentation
- Assist with project schedule and budget tracking activities
- Support preparation of reports and presentations for district leadership and stakeholders
- Conduct site visits to observe construction progress, sequencing, and safety practices
- Assist with permit tracking and coordination activities
- Interact professionally with contractors, subcontractors, consultants, and suppliers
- Participate in discussions related to project coordination and problem solving
- Perform general administrative and project support tasks as assigned

Minimum Qualifications
Current enrollment in or recent completion of a program related to:
- Construction Management
Engineering
Architecture
Public Administration
Project Management
Facilities Management
Or related field preferred
Strong organizational and communication skills
Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
Ability to work collaboratively in a professional environment
Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism
Preferred Qualifications
- Interest in public works or educational facility construction
- Familiarity with construction documents or project management software
- Experience working in collaborative team environments
Work Environment
The position will include both office and field environments. The intern may visit active construction sites and must comply with all district and contractor safety requirements.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to walk active construction sites
- Ability to lift and carry light materials or files
- Ability to work on a computer for extended periods
Schedule & Compensation
- Temporary summer position
- Up to 10 weeks during summer construction season
- Up to 40 hours per week
