Job Purpose

Herc Rentals is seeking a motivated, analytical, and detail-oriented intern to join our Finance organization. This posting covers two separate internship openings: one on our Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) team and one on our Finance Business Partner team. You will apply once, and both teams will review your resume and determine which opening is the best fit. The selected intern will be placed with a single team for the duration of the internship. Both roles share a common foundation in financial reporting, analysis, and support of business decisions, but the day-to-day work differs. The FP&A role centers on corporate reporting, planning, and forecasting, along with supporting an assigned corporate function. The Finance Business Partner role supports the team that provides analytics and insights to field leadership. Either role is a strong fit for a student seeking their first dedicated finance experience, as well as an MBA student looking to transition into finance.

What you will do...

Shared Responsibilities

Both roles include the following:

• Assist with monthly financial reporting and analysis, including comparisons to budget, forecast, and prior year.
• Help research and explain financial variances and summarize the drivers in plain language.
• Perform data validation and reconciliations so reporting files stay accurate and consistent.
• Support the preparation and review of financial reports and presentations.
• Participate in special projects and ad hoc analysis based on current business priorities.

FP&A Role

If placed on the FP&A team, you will:

• Support corporate reporting packages prepared for senior leadership.
• Support an assigned corporate function such as Human Resources, Information Technology, Fleet Operations, or Operations.
• Assist the department with spend tracking, cost reviews, and questions about its monthly results.
• Help prepare budget and forecast inputs with the department and the finance team.
• Support headcount reporting, open requisition tracking, and personnel cost analysis.
• Assist with the Annual Operating Plan, rolling forecasts, and long-range planning.
• Help maintain and update financial models and reporting schedules.
• Support cash flow, key metric, cost savings, and business case analysis.

Finance Business Partner Role

If placed on the Finance Business Partner team, you will:

• Support the team that provides analytics and insights to field leadership.
• Help prepare analysis of branch and regional performance, including revenue, operating expenses, and profitability.
• Assist the team with branch-level budget and forecast inputs.
• Help build reporting that explains what is driving field results.
• Support analysis behind field cost savings initiatives and business cases.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled as a junior or senior pursuing a bachelor's degree in Finance, Financial Mathematics, Quantitative Finance, Financial Technology (FinTech), Economics, Accounting, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Analytics, or a related quantitative field; or currently enrolled in an MBA program with an interest in transitioning into finance.
• Relevant coursework in finance, accounting, or economics for candidates whose major is not finance.
• Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• High attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills, with comfort asking questions and working with people outside of finance.
• Ability to organize information, manage deadlines, and follow through on assignments.
