    Job Description

Berlin High School is looking for an engaging and enthusiastic soon-to-be math teacher to join our school family for the second semester. The successful candidate will understand that teaching begins with relationships and that students are more likely to succeed when they find their learning relevant and meaningful. As a Teacher Intern at Berlin High School, you will support a dynamic learning environment by teaching scheduled classes, engaging students, and reinforcing district curriculum standards while working closely with a Cooperating Teacher. Responsibilities include assessing student progress, maintaining accurate records, fostering a safe and respectful classroom environment, and providing individualized support to meet student learning and behavioral needs.

The Teacher Intern will collaborate with colleagues, assist with individualized learning and behavior plans, prepare classroom activities and materials for substitute teachers when absent, and actively participate in professional learning and district meetings. A commitment to professional growth and ongoing reflection will be an essential component of the internship experience. All expectations outlined in the Wisconsin Improvement Program (WIP) Handbook regarding Teacher Internships will be followed throughout the semester-long Teacher Internship experience.

The math department has made a commitment to incorporating engaging strategies into every lesson to get students talking about their learning. Berlin High School is proud to partner with our local universities to offer multiple CAPP classes in our math department, including Statistics and Probability, Pre-Calculus, and Calculus. We also offer courses in algebra, geometry, and consumer mathematics. Students at Berlin High School go on to do a variety of things upon graduation, from entering the workforce or military, going into the trades or a technical school, or going to a four-year university, and we feel a well-rounded math education is vital to any path.

Berlin High School has a student body of approximately 400 students and has a breadth of opportunity with over 130 different course offerings to choose from in multiple disciplines, including career and technical education, fine arts, sciences, mathematics, languages, and college preparatory courses. Berlin High School offers the opportunity for students to earn over 70 university and technical school credits while in high school, in addition to Advanced Placement (AP) offerings. We believe that the high school experience extends outside the classroom, and with over 40 extracurricular clubs, groups, and teams, our students have ample opportunity to be involved.

Clay Lamberton Elementary (4K-5), Berlin Middle School (6-8), and Berlin High School sit on the same campus and serve as a hub of activity for the greater Berlin community. The Berlin Area School District comprises 14 municipalities, with the City of Berlin at the center. Berlin is a rural community with a population of 5,500 located approximately 20 minutes west of Oshkosh and 10 minutes north of Green Lake. The Fox River runs through the center of the historic Victorian downtown. Agriculture, health services, light industry, and retail shops comprise Berlin's economy.

The ideal candidate would be effective in the following areas:

    • Make authentic connections with students and partner with parents to maximize engagement.
    • Collaborate with colleagues to share ideas and strategies that improve student outcomes.
    • Create and deliver engaging lessons to teach content and build skills.
    • Use formative data to adjust instruction and provide feedback.
    • Establish a safe and respectful learning environment for all students.
    • Maintain high expectations for students and self.
    • Believe that all students can learn and succeed.

Qualifications: Candidate must be in progress toward a bachelor's or master's degree and seeking licensure through the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) in the assigned subject area(s) and/or grade level(s). Demonstrated proficiency in the subject area(s) to be taught is required. Strong technology skills are required. Candidate must be eligible for and seek an intern license upon hire.

Salary, benefits, and length of contract: This position is for the second semester of the 2026-27 school year, with a stipend of $4500.
