Job Purpose
The Locomotive Field Service Intern should expect to learn multiple facets of locomotive service and maintenance. Assignment will include travel to Progress Rail manufacturing sites and customer locations in the U.S. The student intern will leave this position with valuable skills and industry knowledge.

Intern - Locomotive Field Service

Key Job Elements
• Assist in creating work plans and systems documents for locomotives;
• Analyze data from our LTS data base;
• Train under experienced technicians to understand how a locomotive works;
• Work safely on customer property, following all safety rules;
• Train and test on our locomotive build procedures;
• Create training documents and videos of systems;
• Communicate information in a timely manner;
• Effective train and work on mechanical & electrical system of a locomotive;
• Maintain records of work performed;
• Research/co-ordinate special tool and material requirements;
• Adhere to all policies and procedures that relate to a designated facility;
• Ensure good safety practices and housekeeping;
• Work with minimal supervision, but with supervisor available for questions;
• Travel to different Manufacturing facilities of Progress Rail to understand our manufacturing process
o These May include Muncie Indiana, Marshalltown Iowa, Winston Salem, North Carolina and Mayfield Kentucky
• Create videos of how a locomotive system works;
• Assist in the development an Engine overhaul document.

Project Summary and outcome Goals of this Internship:
• Complete our Level 1 training;
• Complete a full commissioning of 1 locomotive in Muncie Indiana;
• Develop one systems training video on a new locomotive;
• Develop an Onsite training packet of a 1010J engine and how it is assembled;
• Trained and test on our building procedures;
• Learn how to track our products in the field;
• Maintain records of work performed.

Qualifications and Experience
• Solid foundation of both mechanical and electrical systems is preferred;
• Analytical Ability where problems are complex;
• Demonstrated some Electrical and Mechanical Competence;
• Interpersonal Skills to work effectively with others;
• Computer skills (Microsoft office),power point, excel;
• Working background in safe work procedures and history of compliance;
• Travel as required. Travel may be as long as a week at a time;
• Spanish is an asset, both written and spoken.

Essential and Physical Activities Functions
• Strength - This is a mixture of traditional office setting and shop locations and requires the occasional lifting of weight of up to 50lbs;
• Motion - Requires the use of a computer, keyboard and other equipment. Employee will be sitting the majority of the day with occasional walking, climbing, squatting, kneeling and driving;
• Vision/Hearing Requirements - Must be able to communicate with customers and coworkers and utilize all office equipment;
• Work Environment - Work is in office sitting and shops, may be exposed to extremes of heat and cold. The position may require some work on the manufacturing floor that could expose candidate to all environmental aspects;
