The Opportunity At Alera Group, our Employee Benefits team helps organizations attract, retain, and support their employees through innovative benefits solutions. As a Intern, you'll play an important role in delivering exceptional client service, building trusted relationships, and helping clients navigate the complexities of employee benefits.
RESPONSIBILITIES
What You'll Do / Your ImpactClient Partnership & Service Excellence
Support Account Managers in servicing group benefit accounts
Prepare for and attend employer open enrollment meetings
Assist with creating benefit guides using Alera Group PowerPoint templates
Support client and carrier meeting preparation as needed
Maintain cooperative working relationships with clients, carrier partners, internal team members, and agency staff
Help ensure client materials and enrollment information are organized, accurate, and ready for delivery
Operational & Compliance Excellence
Keep management systems and shared drives organized and up to date
Compile employee census data and support benefit administration documentation
Create deduction details for employer groups using Excel templates and calculations
Put together small group proposals
Maintain familiarity with carrier eligibility rules and COBRA regulations
Support accurate documentation related to health, life, dental, vision, LTD, STD, and supplemental products
Assist with transporting enrollment materials to and from renewal meetings as needed
Growth & Retention
Attend and participate in team meetings
Contribute to a responsive and organized client service experience
Support renewal and open enrollment processes that help strengthen client relationships
Use problem-solving, communication, and follow-through skills to support team success
Help identify opportunities to improve efficiency, organization, and service delivery
QUALIFICATIONS
What You BringRequired
High School Diploma or equivalent
Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with clients, carrier partners, internal teams, and agency staff
Ability to run effective meetings using listening, reasoning, and clear communication skills
Ability to retain knowledge, problem solve, and work independently
Basic math computation skills, especially within Excel
Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
Ability to use the internet, carrier websites, and agency software programs
Ability to operate standard office equipment including copier, scanner, fax, calculator, and telephone
Ability to work at a fast pace with unscheduled interruptions
Ability to sit for long periods of time
Insured vehicle and legal eligibility to drive to client meetings
Preferred
1 to 3 years of Employee Benefits or Human Resources related experience
Knowledge of Health, Life, Dental, Vision, Long Term Disability, Short Term Disability, and supplemental products
Familiarity with carrier eligibility rules and COBRA regulations
Experience using Brokerage Builder
Experience preparing employee census data, deduction details, proposals, and benefit guides
Experience supporting open enrollment or renewal meetings
Any combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge and abilities to perform the role
