Job Summary: An intern may practice in an approved training area only under the immediate visual supervision of a preceptor. The licensed intern may do any of the functions of a Pharmacist for which they have been trained with the exception of supervising technicians.
Minimum Education: Enrolled or graduate of an accredited College of Pharmacy.
Licensure, Registration and/or Certification: Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy Intern Certificate
Work Experience: 0 - 6 months related experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of Microsoft office software; analytical and problem-solving skills.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Prepares TPN admixtures, syringes, etc., using sterile technique, dosage precautions, stability and safety precautions. Reviews physician orders through documentation of care planning, med profiles, drug interactions. Checks progress notes to make appropriate recommendations. Communicates effectively with patients, physician, nurses, etc. Actively participates in staff meetings, patient care conferences, QA activities, etc. Coordinates the daily pharmacy activities to assure timely accurate delivery of meds to the appropriate patients via supervising pharmacy technicians and support personnel. Provides other departmental support while adhering to policy and procedures, TJC guidelines and state and federal pharmacy law.
Decision Making: Independent judgment in planning sequence of operations and making minor decisions in a complex technical or professional field.
Working Relationships: Works directly with patients and/or customers. Works with internal customers via telephone or face to face interaction. Works with external customers via telephone or face to face interaction. Works with other healthcare professionals and staff.
