ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serves as a representative of VPA.
  • Demonstrates a positive attitude and professionalism, courtesy, tact and discretion in all interactions with other employees and the public.
  • Assists with maintenance of building sites.
  • Assists with special events as needed.
  • Ensures that all visitors to our facilities have a positive experience.
  • Assists with the implementation of classes, programs and/or events.
  • Assists with set up and break down for classes, programs and/or events.
  • Assists MADE Assistant Program Coordinator and Program Coordinators, as needed.
  • Uses knowledge in relevant field to suggest improvements to classes, programs, events, or facilities.
  • Responsive and interactive while participating with classes, programs, events, or facilities.
  • Assists with environmental concerns for VPA and how to improve overall sustainability in classes, programs, events, or facilities.
  • Shares knowledge relating to societal trends and how to adjust programs to be as inclusive as possible.
  • Attends meetings, if requested.
  • Must be available to work flexible day, evening, and weekend hours for the season
  • Follow directions and relay work progress in an effective manner.
  • Follow safety procedures, wearing appropriate personal protective equipment and maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Peforms other duties as apparent or assigned.

KNOWLEDGE/ABILITY

  • Demonstrated ability to assist in the planning and execution of youth programs, activities, and events.

  • Ability to work effectively under supervision and complete assigned tasks with diligence and reliability.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage individuals of all ages.

  • Ability to follow instructions accurately and efficiently.

  • Familiarity with computer applications or the capacity to quickly learn relevant software.

  • Ability to remain on one's feet for extended periods of time.

  • Ability to adhere to established procedures and guidelines

  • Ability to respond appropriately to verbal and written communication

EDUCATION / QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be a current high school student or a high school graduate with an interest in gaining on-the-job training in fields such as tourism, event management, leisure studies, recreation, communications, psychology, sociology, environmental studies, or a related discipline.

  • Prior experience interacting with the public is required.

  • Experience working with children is preferred.

  • A background in customer service is considered an asset.

Duties are performed in both indoor and outdoor settings. Work conditions may involve varying weather conditions (heat, humidity, cold, rain, etc.) and noise levels typically from mild to moderate.
