REPORTS
TO:
Principal or designee, and the Director of Curriculum, Instruction, Assessment & Digital Platforms FUNCTION
The Lead Teacher - Humanities: English & Social Studies (Grades 9-12) serves as the instructional and organizational
liaison
for
the
high
school
English
and
Social
Studies
programs.
The
Lead
Teacher
supports
curriculum
coherence,
assessment
alignment,
program
development,
interdisciplinary
Humanities
initiatives,
and
effective
communication
while
remaining
a
classroom
teacher.
The Lead Teacher works collaboratively with English and Social Studies faculty and building and district administration
to
support
consistent
implementation
of
district
programs,
instructional
priorities,
and
student
learning
goals.
This
position
carries
no
formal
supervisory
or
evaluative
authority.
TERMS OF ASSIGNMENT
The
Lead
Teacher
shall
have
no
duty
periods .
This
position
does
not
include
supervisory,
evaluative,
or
administrative
authority
over
staff.
RESPONSIBILITIES Department Leadership & Communication
Serve
as
the
lead
liaison
for
the
Grades
9-12
English
and
Social
Studies
Departments.

administrative
meetings
as
scheduled
to
support
communication,
planning,
and
coordination.
Create
agendas
for
and
facilitate
department
meetings
for
English
and
Social
Studies
staff.
Support
collaboration
and
communication
between
English
and
Social
Studies
faculty,
particularly
in
areas
of
shared
Humanities
programming
and
initiatives.
Disseminate
district
and
building-level
information
to
English
and
Social
Studies
staff
in
a
timely
and
consistent
manner.
Serve
as
a
point
of
contact
between
English
and
Social
Studies
faculty
and
administration
regarding
departmental
needs,
concerns,
programs,
and
initiatives.
Promote
collaboration
and
consistency
within
and
across
the
Humanities
disciplines. Curriculum, Assessment & Program Coordination
Work
collaboratively
with
the
Director
of
Curriculum,
Instruction,
Assessment
&
Digital
Platforms
to
support
the
development,
review,
implementation,
and
refinement
of
the
Grades
9-12
English
and
Social
Studies
curricula.
Facilitate
Program
of
Studies
review
for
English
and
Social
Studies
courses,
including
course
descriptions,
sequencing,
prerequisites,
and
academic
pathways.
Coordinate
department
input
related
to
student
placement,
course
sequencing,
academic
levels,
and
program
development.
Support
alignment
of
English
and
Social
Studies
curricula
with
the
applicable
New
Jersey
Student
Learning
Standards
and
district
instructional
priorities.
Support
the
alignment
and
coordination
of
common
assessments,
including
benchmark
assessments,
midterm
examinations,
and
final
examinations,
where
applicable.
Assist
in
reviewing
and
organizing
departmental
materials
related
to
curriculum
and
assessment
initiatives.
Identify
and
facilitate
meaningful
interdisciplinary
connections
between
English,
Social
Studies,
and
related
Humanities
programs.
Support
the
development,
implementation,
and
review
of
Humanities-related
courses,
programs,
pathways,
competitions,
and
enrichment
opportunities.
Assist
with
the
review
of
student
achievement
and
assessment
data
to
identify
departmental
strengths,
needs,
and
areas
for
instructional
focus. Instructional Support (Non-Supervisory)
Provide
collegial
support
to
English
and
Social
Studies
teachers
in
implementing
effective
instructional
and
assessment
practices.
Serve
as
a
peer
model
and
instructional
resource
upon
request.
Facilitate
collaboration
and
the
sharing
of
instructional
practices,
resources,
and
strategies
within
and
across
the
Humanities
disciplines.
Support
new
English
and
Social
Studies
teachers
through
mentoring
and
informal
coaching,
as
appropriate.
Share
professional
learning
opportunities
related
to
English,
Social
Studies,
Humanities
instruction,
assessment,
literacy,
and
curriculum.
Support
collaboration
around
disciplinary
literacy,
research,
writing,
critical
thinking,
source
analysis,
and
effective
communication
across
Humanities
courses.
Assist
in
identifying
departmental
professional
learning
needs
and
communicate
those
needs
to
building
and
district
administration.

Facilitate
the
English
and
Social
Studies
Department
budgets
in
collaboration
with
building
administration
and
the
Director
of
Curriculum,
Instruction,
Assessment
&
Digital
Platforms.
Assist
with
the
inventory
and
organization
of
instructional
supplies,
texts,
novels,
primary
and
secondary
source
materials,
digital
resources,
and
other
departmental
materials.
Coordinate
departmental
requests
for
instructional
materials,
texts,
subscriptions,
technology,
and
replacement
resources.
Support
the
review
and
acquisition
of
instructional
resources
in
alignment
with
approved
curricula
and
district
procedures.
Serve
as
the
department
point
of
contact,
as
appropriate,
for
vendors,
academic
competitions,
enrichment
opportunities,
and
English-,
Social
Studies-,
and
Humanities-related
programs.
Assist
administration
in
identifying
short-
and
long-term
instructional
resource
needs
for
English
and
Social
Studies
programs. Additional Responsibilities
Attend
evening
parent
orientation,
curriculum,
or
program
meetings
related
to
English,
Social
Studies,
or
Humanities
programming,
as
requested
by
the
administration.
Assist
with
department-related
planning
connected
to
district
initiatives,
state
requirements,
student
achievement
goals,
or
program
development,
as
appropriate.
Support
special
programs
and
initiatives
related
to
English,
Social
Studies,
Humanities
education,
literacy,
academic
enrichment,
and
college
and
career
readiness.
Support
opportunities
for
students
to
engage
in
authentic
Humanities
experiences,
including
research,
writing,
debate,
civic
engagement,
interdisciplinary
projects,
competitions,
and
other
enrichment
opportunities,
as
appropriate.
Perform
other
duties
related
to
the
English,
Social
Studies,
and
Humanities
programs
as
assigned
by
the
Principal
or
Director
of
Curriculum,
Instruction,
Assessment
&
Digital
Platforms.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 10 months, salary determined by Agreement between KEA and Kinnelon BOE. ANNUAL EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with the Achieve
NJ
State
law
and
the
provisions
of
the
board's
policy
on
evaluations.
