Job Description

Aeroflow Health – Internal Applications Engineering Manager

Aeroflow Health is a national leader in home medical equipment and clinical services. We combine technology, operational excellence, and compassionate expertise to deliver essential products and care directly to patients’ homes. At Aeroflow Health, we make healthcare accessible by taking a holistic approach to how we care for our patients.

We are equally passionate about taking care of our employees. Recognized as one of the fastest-growing healthcare companies in the U.S., an Inc. 5000 honoree, and a certified Great Place to Work®, Aeroflow continues to seek ways they can be one of the nation’s top employers. As we continue to grow, we remain committed to building an exceptional workplace where talented professionals are empowered, supported, and inspired to make a meaningful impact every day.

The Opportunity

Aeroflow’s Internal Applications organization includes approximately 25 engineers supporting more than 40 internal products across the business. As we modernize these applications and expand the team’s full-stack engineering capabilities, we are seeking an Internal Applications Engineering Manager to lead a team of approximately eight engineers.

This team is at an important point in its evolution. Many of its engineers have historically specialized in VBA and Microsoft Access development and are actively transitioning into modern full-stack application development. At the same time, Aeroflow is modernizing legacy Access applications into web-based platforms that can better support our employees and growing business.

The Internal Applications Engineering Manager will lead that transition from both a people and technical leadership perspective—developing engineers with varying levels of full-stack experience, creating accountability around delivery and quality, removing roadblocks, and helping the team mature into an increasingly autonomous engineering organization.

This is not primarily a hands-on coding role. We expect this leader to maintain enough technical depth to coach engineers, guide technical decisions, and participate credibly in architecture discussions while spending the majority of their time leading people, developing talent, and ensuring the team delivers high-quality software.

Your Primary Responsibilities

We are currently seeking an Internal ApplicationsEngineering Manager responsible for leading approximately eight engineers within our Internal Applications organization.

Lead & Develop the Engineering Team
  • Lead, coach, and develop engineers with varying levels of full-stack experience.
  • Conduct regular 1:1s, establish development goals, provide timely and constructive feedback, and manage performance.
  • Build individualized development paths that help engineers expand their technical capabilities and increase their autonomy.
  • Recognize strengths and skill gaps across the team and intentionally connect engineers who can learn from and develop one another.
  • Create an environment of high trust, ownership, accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning.
  • Remove roadblocks and ensure engineers have the resources, context, and support necessary to succeed.
Own Engineering Delivery
  • Partner with project and product management on roadmap priorities, work readiness, sequencing, dependencies, and stakeholder communication.
  • Own the engineering team’s execution, capacity management, technical quality, and delivery accountability.
  • Identify delivery risks and resource constraints early and work across teams to resolve them.
  • Ensure work moves across the finish line when and at the quality level the team has committed to deliver.
Provide Technical Leadership
  • Maintain sufficient hands-on technical depth to coach engineers, evaluate technical approaches, and provide meaningful technical direction while keeping direct coding responsibilities generally below 25% of the role.
  • Provide guidance across modern full-stack development using React, TypeScript, Node.js, and AWS.
  • Partner with architecture leadership on application design and technical direction.
  • Translate business requirements into actionable technical work alongside engineering and business stakeholders.
  • Support the modernization of legacy applications into scalable, maintainable web-based platforms.
  • Promote and enforce strong engineering practices around architecture, code quality, testing, CI/CD, reliability, and maintainability.
Partner Across the Organization
  • Collaborate with engineering leadership, architects, project managers, product partners, and business leaders to ensure teams are solving the right problems at the right time.
  • Translate effectively between technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Build strong working relationships across engineering teams and help resolve cross-team friction constructively.
  • Balance immediate delivery needs with longer-term engineering maturity and talent development.
  • Employee has an individual responsibility for knowledge of and compliance with laws, regulations, and policies.
  • Compliance is a condition of employment and is considered an element of job performance.
  • Maintain HIPAA and patient confidentiality.
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance as assigned by your schedule.
  • Perform other job duties as assigned.
Skills for Success

Candidates who stand out will demonstrate:

  • People Leadership: You genuinely enjoy developing engineers and can adapt your coaching approach to individuals at very different stages of their technical growth.
  • Technical Credibility: You can hold meaningful conversations with engineers and architects, challenge technical decisions when appropriate, and provide direction without needing to be the strongest coder in the room.
  • Talent Development: You can identify strengths, skill gaps, and development opportunities and turn those observations into meaningful growth.
  • Delivery Leadership: You create clarity and accountability around priorities, commitments, quality, and outcomes.
  • Modernization Mindset: You understand how to evolve legacy systems and engineering capabilities pragmatically while continuing to support the business.
  • Cross-Functional Influence: You work effectively across engineering, architecture, project management, product, and business teams.
  • Pragmatic Decision-Making: You can balance engineering quality, business priorities, team capacity, and speed.
  • Low-Ego Leadership: You build trust, encourage collaboration, and care more about team outcomes than personal ownership of the solution.
Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, including meaningful experience designing and building production full-stack applications.
  • Demonstrated experience formally leading software engineers, including coaching, performance feedback, delivery accountability, and resource planning. Direct people-management experience is strongly preferred.
  • Strong professional experience with React, TypeScript, and Node.js.
  • Strong understanding of modern application development in AWS environments.
  • Ability to provide technical guidance, evaluate engineering approaches, and participate credibly in architecture and design discussions.
  • Experience leading software delivery across competing priorities, dependencies, and resource constraints.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach engineers and help individuals grow technically and professionally.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with engineers, architects, project managers, product partners, and business stakeholders.
You Might Also Have
  • Next.js experience.
  • Experience modernizing legacy applications or platforms.
  • Experience leading engineers through a significant technical transformation or upskilling initiative.
  • Serverless AWS architecture experience, including Lambda, SNS/SQS, API Gateway, DynamoDB, RDS, S3, or CloudFront.
  • Infrastructure-as-code experience with Pulumi, Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar technologies.
  • Experience with CI/CD and modern DevOps practices.
  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools and workflows.
  • Experience building AI-enabled applications or systems.
  • VBA or Microsoft Access experience.
  • Healthcare, DME, finance, or insurance experience.
What We Look For

We are looking for a people leader with real engineering credibility.

You don't need to spend your day writing code to be successful in this role, but you do need enough technical depth to earn the trust of engineers, coach through difficult technical problems, and contribute meaningfully when architectural decisions are being made.

You'll inherit a team with different levels of experience in modern full-stack development. During the first several months, you'll play a particularly important role in helping engineers navigate that transition—understanding who needs more support, who needs less, and how to develop the team collectively. As those capabilities mature, your focus will increasingly shift toward the core responsibilities of engineering leadership: developing people, driving accountability and quality, removing roadblocks, and ensuring commitments are delivered.

You'll thrive here if you enjoy developing people, creating accountability without micromanaging, simplifying complicated problems, and helping engineering teams become stronger over time.

Our environment offers meaningful autonomy and the opportunity to influence how an evolving engineering organization works. You'll partner closely with technical and business leaders while leading a team through an important stage of its modernization.
