Reports To : Supervisory Committee Administrative Reporting : CEO Location: 14090 Southwest Fwy, Sugar Land, TX-77478POSITION PURPOSEThe Internal Auditor provides independent and objective assurance designed to add value and strengthen the Credit Union's governance, risk management, and internal control environment. For a federal credit union with approximately $500 million in assets, this role is responsible for executing a comprehensive, risk-based internal audit program that covers financial, operational, compliance, IT, and vendor-related risks, in accordance with NCUA regulations and professional auditing standards.FUNCTIONDevelop and maintain a risk-based annual audit plan aligned with the Credit Union's risk profile and approved by the Supervisory CommitteePerform enterprise-wide risk assessments at least annuallyLead or support investigations into suspected fraud, misconduct, or policy violationsAudit ExecutionConduct independent audits in the following areas, among other areas, as determined periodically:Lending (consumer, real estate, commercial, indirect, participation)Deposit operations, cash controls, and teller functionsACH, wires, cards, and electronic paymentsBSA/AML and OFAC programsInformation technology, cybersecurity, and data governanceVendor management and third-party relationshipsFinancial reporting, ALM, and key management reportsEvaluate internal controls using recognized frameworks (e.g., COSO)Assess compliance with NCUA regulations, federal consumer protection laws, and internal policiesReporting & CommunicationPrepare formal audit reports, including scope, methodology, risk ratings, root cause analysis, and management recommendationsPresent audit results, trends, and systemic risks to the Supervisory CommitteeProvide periodic status updates on audit plan progress and issue remediationIssue Management & Follow-UpTrack audit findings, corrective action plans, and validate implementation and effective remediationCommunicate unresolved or high-risk issues to the Supervisory CommitteeRegulatory & External CoordinationServe as a key point of contact for NCUA examiners, external auditors, and consultantsCoordinate internal audit activities with external audit, compliance, and risk functions to avoid duplication while maintaining independenceSupport preparation for NCUA examinations and supervisory reviewsAuthority & IndependenceMaintains full independence from operational managementReports functionally to the Supervisory CommitteePerform other compliance, investigation, and audit tasks, as identified by the Supervisory committee from time to timeQUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREDEducation & ExperienceBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field5–7 years of internal audit, compliance, or risk management experience within a financial institutionCredit Union audit experience strongly preferredFDIC work experience preferredProfessional Certifications (Preferred / Strongly Encouraged)CIA, CPA, or CISACAMS or other BSA/AML certification a plusDeep understanding of mid-size credit union operationsStrong working knowledge of NCUA regulations and examination processesUnderstanding of the use of Computer Assisted Audit Techniques (CAAT)Excellent analytical, documentation, and report-writing skillsAbility to communicate effectively with senior management and Board-level committeesHigh degree of integrity, discretion, and professional skepticismWorking ConditionsPrimarily office-based with periodic travel to branchesFlexible scheduling may be required during examinations or audit cyclesCOMPENSATIONNizari PFCU is committed to investing in the growth, development, and well-being of its employees.
