CENTRAL TEXAS VETERINARY SPECIALTY & EMERGENCY HOSPITALis looking for a Veterinary Technician to join their Internal Medicine Department in Austin, TX.  
 
As an Internal Medicine Technician, you will be responsible for providing outstanding patient care, and exceptional client service, while working with doctors and other hospital leadership to address patient care needs. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES: 
  • Assisting our Internist and other team members
  • Providing support to other departments as needed
  • Restraining animals safely using stress-free handling techniques
  • Working collaboratively and positively with all coworkers
  • Provide nursing care to hospitalized patients and medical care to outpatients
  • Successfully use all in-house laboratory equipment to provide accurate results
  • Be able to calculate drug dosages and reconstitute injectable drugs
  • Giving medications via all prescribed routes: PO, SC, IM, IV
  • Proficiency with venous catheterization
  • May potentially be working with cytotoxic (chemotherapy) agents, including preparation, administration, and disposal 
  • Experience with anesthesia induction and monitoring for advanced surgical procedures, including use of anesthetic ventilator and paralytic drugs
  • Effectively care for and communicate with clients
  • Flexibility and the ability to adjust to a changing environment.
  • Handle stress and pressure calmly, with poise and tact.
  • Self-motivated, hard worker.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and delegate appropriately.
  • Willingness and ability to learn new tasks quickly.

QUALIFICATIONS: 
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required. 
  • Veterinary technician experience is required. Specialty department highly desired. 
  • Credentialed technician preferred.
  • Basic medical math and computer skills, customer service, and communication skills are a must. 
  • Excellent customer care is a must.
  • Experience with anesthesia is required.
  • Experience with endoscopy is preferred but not required.
  • Must be able to bend, stand, stoop, walk, and stand for an extended period of time.
  • Must be able to lift up to forty (40) pounds.
SCHEDULE: 
  • Three 12-hour shifts per week: Monday – Wednesday (7:00 am – 7:00 pm)
  • Overtime may be required.
