General Description of the Position
The International Academic Advisor will provide concierge-level support to international students from initial enrollment through graduation. The advisor proactively monitors student attendance and engagement, conducts outreach to at-risk students, and delivers early interventions to promote successful academic progress throughout their Delaware State University program. This role requires maintaining comprehensive expertise in academic advising practices and a thorough understanding of all university programs. A successful candidate will use strong critical-thinking skills to help a diverse population of international students overcome myriad obstacles to achieve their educational objectives. Successful candidates enjoy working in a high-energy, fast-paced environment, demonstrate enthusiasm and initiative, and possess excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to establish rapport with students and all university stakeholders. The advisor will participate in student retention initiatives, including attending virtual and/or onsite events, information sessions, webinars, and other events as requested, to offer guidance to reentry students. The advisor serves as the primary point of contact for students navigating academic policies, course selection, and online learning expectations.
