Employees of WCU are provided a comprehensive benefits package as well as other resources, policies and programs to ensure a happy and healthy work/life balance. Benefit eligible employees have access to dental, vision and health insurance plans - eligibility begins on the first of the month following date of hire. Retirement plan contributions begin on the eligibility date following election and include employer contributions for either a defined contribution or a defined benefit plan. Eligible employees have access to tuition waivers for up to three courses per academic year; employee may enroll at any of the constituent UNC System campuses. Also offered are free group exercise classes multiple times per week, a discounted membership to the campus recreation center, free vaccine and booster shots offered on campus, pretax flexible spending accounts, 12 paid holidays and 24 hours of paid community service leave each year. Leave earning employees (staff and 12-month faculty) who work at least half of the working days of their first month of employment will begin accruing vacation and sick leave immediately. Paid parental leave after 12 months of continuous service.

Position Summary

The primary location of this position is on-site at the Cullowhee, NC campus. This position is exempt from the State of North Carolina Human Resources Act (EHRA).

The primary purpose of this position is to facilitate a seamless and supportive experience for international students throughout their academic journey at WCU. This role serves as a vital link between prospective and current international students and various university departments, ensuring that all admissions processes are navigated efficiently and effectively. By collaborating closely with the graduate and undergraduate admissions offices, the position aims to provide comprehensive guidance on international admission requirements, academic programs, and scholarship opportunities. Additionally, the role encompasses the critical responsibility of managing visa processes and pre-arrival logistics, thereby laying a strong foundation for students' successful transition to campus life.

Beyond admissions, this position is dedicated to fostering a nurturing environment for international students by serving as their primary contact for support services across campus. By coordinating with various departments, the role ensures that students receive the necessary resources and assistance to thrive academically and socially.

The position also plays a key role in planning and executing International Student Orientation, which is essential for acclimating new students to the university community. Furthermore, through active involvement in international student recruitment and campus programming, this role contributes to the university's commitment to global engagement, enhancing the overall educational experience for all students.

Minimum Qualifications

Interested candidates must be legally eligible to work in the United States of American without the need for employment sponsorship or any other immigration related assistance.

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • U.S. permanent resident or citizen status to qualify as a Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word, demonstrated by the ability to create and edit documents and spreadsheets.
  • Experience in managing social media accounts for professional purposes, including content creation and engagement metrics.
  • Strong writing skills, evidenced by the ability to produce clear and concise written communication.
  • Experience working with diverse cultural groups, demonstrated through previous roles or projects.
  • Proven organizational skills, as shown by the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, as evidenced by previous team-based projects or roles.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters degree in a related field.
  • 1-2 years of experience working in a higher education setting.
  • Experience studying or working abroad.
  • Proficiency in a second language.
