TITLE: INTERNSHIP AND CAREER COORDINATOR / COACH BARCLAYS PROGRAMS

REPORTS TO: SR. PROGAM DIRECTOR (BARLCAYS) & SR. PROGRAM MANAGER, REBOUND ELEVATE

LOCATION: 876 Schenck Avenue Brooklyn NY 11207

HOURS: 35 Hours/Week; Non-Exempt

SALARY: $50,000-$55,000/Year

JOB SUMMARY: Rebound Elevate is a job readiness program that incorporates basketball to engage participants. The program serves young adults ages 18-26, who are disconnected, justice involved, overage and/or under-credited. In close collaboration with other program staff, the Internship Career Coordinator provides job readiness and career exploration workshops, as well as work one on one with youth. Rebound Elevate is centered around exploring careers in sports using an earn as your learn cohort model.

Goal-E is a job readiness program that incorporates Soccer to engage participants. The program serves young adults who are disconnected, justice involved, overage and/or under-credited. In close collaboration with other program staff, the Internship Career Coordinator provides job readiness and career exploration workshops, as well as work one on one career counseling with participants. The program uses Soccer as a vehicle for engagement, but also as avenues for learning job readiness skills such as teamwork, conflict resolution and taking direction from a coach/supervisor.

MAJOR DUTIES:

  • Facilitate career exploration, life skills, work readiness and financial literacy workshops for program participants.
  • Lead work readiness workshops utilizing virtual platforms as needed, specifically Zoom Video Conferencing.
  • Provide individual 1 on 1 job and career counseling to young adults centered on career mapping and goal setting.
  • Support participants' growth by providing continuous feedback and resources to meet individual needs.
  • Build Partnerships via community canvasing, tabling events, and facilitation of presentations.
  • Responsible for recruitment and enrollment of youth to the programs working collaboratively with team and leadership.
  • Assist youth in preparing for and securing employment opportunities.
  • Monitor and provide support to participants once they have gained employment.
  • Provide alumni outreach and support including career counseling, referrals and skill development.
  • Provide referrals to internal and external partners including housing, mental health counseling, educational and vocational programs and other community resources.
  • Connect participants to workforce development programs, educational & vocational programs, and assist with job applications, attaining professional documents, and resume writing.
  • Work with the young person to identify potential longer-term career pathways based on the young person's interests, strengths, and academic/vocational plans.
  • Perform statistical, narrative, and record keeping duties as required, including monthly and quarterly reports.
  • Utilize technology daily to execute job functions including computers, tablets and phones to perform administrative tasks, data entry, virtual workshop facilitation, word processing, email correspondence, text messaging, social media marketing and internet navigation/research.
  • Respond to needs of participants during programming in workshops, sports activities and special events.
  • Lift, move, and transport objects weighing up to 50 pounds across sites for events/programming.
  • Travel is required across sites, partnership locations and special events up to 50% of the time.
  • Plan, Coordinate and Implement special program events and activities including end of cohort celebrations
  • Rebound Elevate:
Assist the Basketball Coach in utilizing basketball to teach life and job skills (i.e., teamwork and conflict resolution).

Track participant attendance and engagement, complete timecards and stipend memorandums.
  • Goal-E: Assist the Soccer Coach in utilizing Soccer to teach life and job skills (i.e., teamwork and conflict resolution).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Associate degree or 2+ years of experience developing employment opportunities for youth and/or young adults preferred.
  • Experience working with disengaged and/or justice involved youth preferred.
  • Strong group facilitation or teaching skills required.
  • Ability to work with diverse staff and participants and network with diverse employer constituents.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication a strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of Trauma Informed Practice a plus
  • Must have a commitment to work from a strength-based, and/or youth development perspective.
