About The Team
Data is deeply embedded in Tesla's product and engineering culture. We rely on large-scale data from vehicles, Superchargers, and energy products to improve hardware designs, proactively detect issues, optimize operations, and make our products better and our customers safer. The Fleet Analytics team helps engineering teams turn that data into decisions. We support engineers directly through analysis, and we build applications, data pipelines, metrics, and AI-assisted tools that allow teams to self-serve insights in the future. Our work has direct impact on Tesla products and enables hundreds of engineers across vehicle, energy, reliability, operations, and autonomous systems teams. We are looking for an intern who is excited to work at the intersection of data engineering, software engineering, analytics, and AI-native tooling. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys taking ambiguous problems, understanding the engineering context, and building reliable tools or analyses that help teams move faster.
Work with stakeholders to turn vague problem statements into clear analytical or engineering scopes, then use the results to drive informed decisions
Write reproducible data analyses over petabytes of fleet-scale data using modern open-source technologies
Clearly communicate analysis assumptions, methodology, limitations, and results to technical audiences
Build data pipelines that promote high-value ad-hoc analyses into production datasets, dashboards, or applications that engineers can rely on
Design and implement metrics, applications, and tools that help engineers and AI agents self-serve data insights
Improve internal workflows for data discovery, analysis, debugging, onboarding, and operational support
Partner with engineers to drive adoption of the applications, datasets, and tools you build
Write clean, tested, maintainable code that can be extended by other engineers
Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Statistics, or a related technical field, with expected graduation in December 2026 to December 2027
Strong programming ability in Python, Java, Scala, or another general-purpose language
Experience working with data through coursework, research, internships, or personal projects
Ability to reason about technical systems and learn domain concepts quickly, including vehicle, electrical, or energy systems
Strong communication skills and the ability to explain technical work clearly
Curiosity, ownership, and comfort working through ambiguity
Able to work on site in Palo Alto, CA
