    What to Expect\n \nConsider before submitting an application: \n \nThis position is expected to start August or September 2026 and continue through summer term (ending approximately December 2026) or continuing into Winter/Spring 2027 if available and there is an opportunity to do so. We ask for a minimum of 12 weeks, full-time (40 hours/week) and on-site, for most internships. Our internship program is for students who are actively enrolled in an academic program.\u202fRecent graduates seeking employment after graduation and not returning to school should apply for full-time positions, not internships. \n \nInternational Students: If your work authorization is through CPT, please consult your school on your ability to work 40 hours per week before applying. You must be able to work 40 hours per week on-site. We are dedicated to providing an experience that allows the intern to experience life at Tesla by including them in projects that are critical to their team's success. \n \nTesla is seeking a motivated engineering intern for research and development of electric motors. This team is critical to the development of high-performance, high efficiency, and low-cost electric powertrain for Tesla's current and future electric vehicles. This person will be working with the motor research team to improve modeling accuracy of electric motor losses and flux, design & optimize electric powertrain, develop test plans and perform measurements in the dyno lab. \n \nYou will be joining a team of mechanical, electrical, and electromagnetic engineering disciplines in a highly collaborative environment. \n \nWhat You'll Do\n\n Development of design automation applications to generate 3D and 2D stator and winding geometries\n Conversion of stator designs into CAD software through automation tools\n Innovation of novel stator winding configurations\n Building application functionality to characterize manufacturability and electromagnetic performance of stator designs\n Inter team collaboration to integrate new stator designs for vehicle programs\n Drive unit and material test design and coordination\n Design of local production tooling for prototype development\n Production tooling validation through prototype building process\n \nWhat You'll Bring\n\n Currently pursuing a degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Modeling, or a related field \n Proficient in FEM simulation fluency preferred \n Experience with FEA, ANSYS preferred \n Experience in MATLAB, VBA, or equivalent tools for modeling and analysis \n Knowledge on electric motor design and applications \n Extensive experience in application development and maintenance \n Experience in using Solidworks or similar 3D modeling tools\n Experience coding in a collaborative environment (Github)\n Strong mechanical skills, including design, manufacturing limits, mechanical linkages, design for manufacturing\n Proficient mechanical skills in design, manufacturing constraints, linkages, and design for manufacturing (DFM)\n \nCompensation and Benefits\n \nBenefits\n \nAs a full-time Tesla Intern, you will be eligible for:\n\n Medical plans > plan options with $0 payroll deduction\n Family-building, fertility, adoption and surrogacy benefits\n Dental (including orthodontic coverage) and vision plans.
