This position is expected to start around January or February 2027 and continue through the entire Spring term (ending approximately May 2027 or later, if available). We ask for a minimum of 12 weeks, full-time (40 hours/week) and on-site, for most internships. Our internship program is for students who are actively enrolled in an academic program. Recent graduates seeking employment after graduation and not returning to school should apply for full-time positions, not internships.

International Students: If your work authorization is through CPT, please consult your school on your ability to work 40 hours per week before applying. You must be able to work 40 hours per week on-site. Many students will be limited to part-time during the academic year.

About the Team

As a member of the firmware platforms team, you will be responsible for delivering high quality embedded code running on the processors at the heart of Tesla vehicles, energy systems, and robotics. Join a team of deeply knowledgeable engineers that strive to build the most robust and reliable embedded systems using cutting-edge software development tools and practices. You will solve some of the most challenging problems in the embedded software space and change the way the world produces electric vehicles and delivers energy.

  • Deliver high-quality C code in a real-time embedded environment
  • Specify, design, and implement new functionality for embedded subsystems
  • Design the software architecture and firmware implementation through integration, test, and high-volume manufacturing
  • Hands-on hardware bring-up, new PCBA bring-up, system debugging and code optimization
  • Make performance and optimization trade-offs to meet product requirements
  • Currently pursuing a Degree in Computer Science or related field with a graduation date between 2027-2028
  • Experience in embedded development in real-time controls, system software, RTOS, and device driver development
  • Proficiency in C
  • Fluent in software fundamentals including software design for maintainability
  • Experience with embedded microprocessor toolchains and debuggers
  • Test-driven development and familiarity with developer-driven automated testing
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate complex technical concepts
  • Understanding of electronics principles and experience reading schematics
  • Experience with at least one assembly language
  • Familiarity with static analysis, fuzzing, or other advanced testing/verification tools

Expected Compensation

$42.00 - $58.00 + benefits

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
