This position is expected to start August/September 2026 and continue through fall (ending approximately December 2026 or later, if available). We ask for a minimum of 12 weeks, full-time (40 hours/week) and on-site, for most internships. Our internship program is for students who are actively enrolled in an academic program. Recent graduates seeking employment after graduation and not returning to school should apply for full-time positions, not internships.
International Students: If your work authorization is through CPT, please consult your school on your ability to work 40 hours per week before applying. You must be able to work 40 hours per week on-site. Many students will be limited to part-time during the academic year.
Tesla Security Engineering is responsible for the digital and physical security systems that protect Tesla's people, places, and intellectual property. We develop relationships with internal partners, design and build security systems, grow the security program with industry suppliers and integration partners to perform work, and provide support for business operations after construction is complete.
Explore, define, and implement enterprise-grade endpoint security standards across all managed workstation devices
Review existing security policy on a regular basis to ensure that standards are inline and/or exceeding industry standard best practices according to published frameworks/benchmarks (NIST/CIS)
Maintain inventory and compliance reporting of workstation fleet of devices for security policy measurement and metrics definition
Develop and apply machine learning/artificial intelligence to security metrics to quantify/qualify the efficacy of our existing control set
Collaborate with IT Security and other stakeholders to curate, design, and implement secure enterprise architecture that aligns with Zero Trust best practices
Administer policy configurations for endpoint security controls (ex. Secure configuration qualification) with an emphasis on the Linux OS (ex. Ubuntu/Red Hat/CentOS)
Document processes, workflows, and methodologies to ensure transparency, reproducibility, and scalability of solutions
Assist with advanced security incident response and detection activities when required
Proficient understanding of IT infrastructure and Security
Create and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) related to operational tasks for endpoint security management
Collaborate with Desktop Engineering team to plan and scope Linux-based policy and configuration set that align to CIS Benchmark Level 1
Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Information Systems Management, Cybersecurity, or related field of study with a graduation date between December 2026 and December 2027
Experience in one or more of the following areas: Endpoint Management, Workstation Engineering, IT Operations/Engineering, Endpoint Security related functions
Experience with Endpoint Security technologies (ex. EDR/NGAV, IT Automation, PowerShell, Python, SCCM, Intune)
Critical thinking and problem-solving mindset; ability to operate at scale and quickly adapt to change in complex and diverse environments
Experience working with Windows/macOS/Linux OS distributions with proficiency
Willing to relocate and work on site in Austin, TX
