This position is expected to start around August 2026 and continue through the entire Fall term (i.e. through December 2026) or into Spring 2027 if available. We ask for a minimum of 12 weeks, full-time and on-site, for most internships.
International Students: If your work authorization is through CPT, please consult your school on your ability to work 40 hours per week before applying. You must be able to work 40 hours per week on-site. Many students will be limited to part-time during the academic year.

About the Team
We are looking for highly motivated candidates who will support development, commissioning, deployment, ramp, and optimization of inline metrology systems for cell manufacturing. The main focus of the activities is to achieve manufacturing readiness for these systems. The candidates will get involved and support various system engineering activities based on their discipline and skillset such as design, fabrication, data processing, data pipeline development, dashboarding, system testing, installation, material characterization, and documentation. You will be working with a cross-functional engineering team.
The battery cell is a critical component in Tesla vehicles and storage systems. This role will have the opportunity to make meaningful contributions to our products. The work environment is demanding, fast-paced, and incredibly exciting. The ideal candidates should be ready to push their limits, as they join a highly motivated and capable team to make unbelieve things into reality.
Pair with engineers and support the development, commissioning, and deployment of innovative inline metrology systems from proof-of-concept to high-volume production
Be able to develop software solutions for development of data pipelines, LLM and RAG solutions for managing the use cases of documentations
Get hands-on with pilot process equipment to continuously improve metrology and understand the fundamentals
Support metrology installation and commissioning on new production lines and interact with suppliers
Support metrology measurements for engineering DOEs for process optimization
Engineering degree in Physics, Optics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Computer Science, Automation Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field. Prior relevant work experience is a plus
Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals, applied physics, applied mathematics, statistics, and ability to apply them towards manufacturing process development
Show expertise or experience in one or more of the following areas:
At least one material characterization technique with shown ability to troubleshoot at system and module levels to achieve the desired metrology specifications
Optics and optical sensor development working with a broad range of wavelengths from infrared to UV
Development of X-ray based characterization tools and experimentations
Mechanical design and fabrication (SolidWorks or any other design package) and familiar with GD&T requirements
Data engineering, data pipeline development (Python, Go), data acquisition, data visualization (Python Seaborn, Python Plotly, MATLAB, Tableau), query building (SQL, Python, Go, Minitab/JMP)
PLC code programming and structure with Siemens, Beckhoff, Rockwell PLC is a great plus
Familiarity with metrology development and fundamentals of the methodology, gage R&R and measurement system analysis, process capability is a plus
Familiarity with Six Sigma and similar concepts is a plus
Familiarity with Battery/Cell manufacturing and testing
Excellent teamwork/interpersonal skills, willingness to gain and share new knowledge and the ability to communicate effectively
Proven problem solver - demonstrated experience of data driven root cause analysis
Strong communication skills and ability to simplify complicated concepts for non-technical and cross-functional team members
Positive attitude, eager to learn and ability to change direction quickly
