This position is expected to start around August or September 2026 and continue through the Fall term (ending approximately December 2026) or continuing into Winter/Spring 2027 if available and there is an opportunity to do so. We ask for a minimum of 12 weeks, full-time and on-site, for most internships. Our internship program is for students who are actively enrolled in an academic program. Recent graduates seeking employment after graduation and not returning to school should apply for full-time positions, not internships.
International Students: If your work authorization is through CPT, please consult your school on your ability to work 40 hours per week before applying. You must be able to work 40 hours per week on-site. Many students will be limited to part-time during the academic year.

Tesla is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineering Intern in the Cameras Systems team. This team is responsible for the entire lifecycle of camera hardware development for the Tesla Bot which includes lens development, camera module development, platform integration, prototyping and validation, and ramp to production. As a member of the team, you will drive mechanical design and integration of camera modules, fast prototyping and deployment for data collection hardware and fixture design for bespoke testing needs unique to imaging systems.
Work closely with cross-functional teams to define product requirements and develop specific implementations
Develop designs in CAD for both detailed parts and master model assemblies
Perform tolerance analysis, Finite Element Analysis (FEA), and other simulations and analyses before releasing designs for production
Create 2D drawings appropriate for high-volume production and inspection methods
Conduct Design for Manufacturing (DFM) reviews with suppliers and support tooling bring up
Run validation tests and perform data analysis
Provide factory engineering support to help identify and resolve issues
Run image and stray light simulations using ANSYS SPEOS
Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
Knowledge of design for plastic injection molded, sheet metal stamping and cast parts
Exposure to a variety of 3D printing methods
Exposure in sensor integration for robotics
Proficient in CAD, CATIA preferred
Basic understanding of cameras and geometric optics
Experience in drafting 2D drawings with GD&T
Ability to perform first-principles analysis to ensure a successful design (stress-strain, thermal, tolerance, cost and mass optimization, etc.)
Passionate about electro-mechanical product design, inventing solutions, and finding better and simpler ways to accelerate the world's transition to sustainable energy
