This position is designed for AACPS high school students who have been recruited to participate in the apprenticeship program.     JOB SUMMARY

    Middle School Design & Production Intern Provides students with hands-on, real-world experience in theatre design and production while supporting middle school performing arts programs. Under the guidance of a mentor teacher, the intern assists with and mentors students in areas such as props, scenery, costumes, lighting, sound, hair and makeup, and publicity for classroom projects and school productions. Assignments vary based on the student''s area of focus and the needs of the program. Work is performed independently under general supervision and may require up to eight (8) hours per day. Production Intern Provides students with practical experience in technical theatre production by supporting showcases and performances in the black box theatre and mainstage at Apex Arts'' Studio 39. Under the guidance of a mentor, the intern assists with lighting, sound, and other technical production activities, including supporting rehearsals and live performances. The position requires strong attention to detail, the ability to follow scripts and production cues, and effective time management to coordinate production schedules. Work is performed independently under general supervision and may require evening hours and up to eight (8) hours per day to support rehearsals and performances.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Works with mentor to develop creative solutions for incoming design or production projects.
    • Works independently to create final, professional-quality materials.
    • Middle School Design and Production Intern - mentor Apex Arts middle school theatre students in the art of Design and Production. This may include props, set, costumes, lights, sound, hair and makeup, and publicity. Production Intern - will be responsible for running lights and possibly sound for showcases and small productions in the black box theater and the mainstage at Apex Arts' Studio 39.
    • Participates in offsite work, when possible and as needed, including installation of graphic materials and on-location video shoots.
    • Performs general office duties, including basic record keeping and maintaining a safe, clean, and organized work environment.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.

    Education

    • Other: Must be a student at an AACPS high school required.

    Experience

    • Six (6) months related experience with backstage and front of house protocol/etiquette and the process of technical rehearsals for Production Intern preferred.
    • Six (6) months related advanced experience in at least one design and production discipline, preferably more, and working knowledge of design and production as a whole for Middle School Design and Production Intern preferred.

    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics

    • Middle School Design and Production Intern -Demonstrated proficiency (designing for stage and working collaboratively with an artistic team.
    • Production Intern -Knowledge of or familiar with ETC eos lighting consols and Qlab sound software or similar systems. Should be detail oriented, adept at following a script, and attentive at keeping an accurate calendar.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work efficiently and harmoniously with others and at the direction of department staff.
    • Demonstrated ability to effectively work and communicate with diverse populations.
    • Demonstrated proficiency with business technology applications (e.g. Video/Web Conferencing, Microsoft Office Suite-Word, Excel, Outlook, and/or PowerPoint preferred).
