Job Summary:

 

Conformal Medical is looking for a hands-on R&D Engineering Summer Intern to support new product development activities across concept development, prototyping, testing, and documentation. This position will work closely with the engineering team and gain exposure to the medical device development process in a collaborative, fast-paced environment. This position will report to the Vice President of Engineering.

 

The role will contribute to multiple projects and assignments while developing practical engineering skills. The intern will assist with testing activities, help organize technical information, support documentation efforts, and learn how engineering decisions are made within a regulated product development environment.

 

This internship offers the opportunity to work alongside experienced engineers on life-changing medical technologies. We are looking for someone who is curious, motivated, detail-oriented, and eager to learn while contributing to meaningful team objectives.

 

Essential Functions / Job Responsibilities:

  • Support prototype development, assembly, and evaluation for new device concepts and design iterations.
  • Conduct bench testing and engineering experiments; collect, organize, and summarize test data for team review.
  • Prepare clear and accurate technical documentation, including technical reports and protocols.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners in Engineering, Quality, and Operations to support project objectives.
  • Help troubleshoot process issues and contribute to root cause investigation and problem-solving efforts.
  • Maintain laboratory organization, equipment readiness, and compliance with safety practices and company procedures in a regulated environment.
  • Participate in team meetings and complete assigned project tasks while learning core medical device development processes and engineering best practices.

 

Qualications

  • Education: Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, or a related engineering discipline is preferred.
  • Experience: Prior internship, academic project, laboratory, or hands-on engineering experience is a plus, but not required.
  • Technical Skills: Basic engineering fundamentals with an interest in product development, testing, and documentation. Familiarity with SolidWorks, data analysis, or lab/test equipment is helpful.
  • Collaboration Skills: Strong interpersonal skills, a positive attitude, and the ability to work effectively with cross-functional team members.
  • Problem-Solving: Good analytical thinking, attention to detail, and willingness to ask questions and learn from feedback.
  • Communication: Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to organize and present technical information effectively.
