Interpreter for the Hearing Impaired

Job Title Interpreter for the Hearing Impaired (American Sign Language Interpreter) Position Summary Brockton Public Schools is seeking an Interpreter for the Hearing Impaired for an elementary student. The Interpreter will facilitate effective communication between deaf or hard-of-hearing individuals and hearing individuals. The interpreter will accurately translate spoken language into American Sign Language (ASL) and interpret signed communication into spoken English while maintaining confidentiality, professionalism, and cultural sensitivity of the student. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Interpret spoken communication into American Sign Language (ASL) and signed communication into spoken English.
• Facilitate communication during meetings, classroom instruction, and school events.
• Provide voice-to-sign and sign-to-voice interpretation services.
• Assist deaf and hard-of-hearing student in accessing information and participating fully in activities.
• Interpret all educational materials, including presentations, videos, and discussions.
• Maintain strict confidentiality regarding all interpreted communications.
• Collaborate with teachers, related service providers, administrators, and other team members as appropriate.
• Prepare assignments by reviewing terminology, materials, and subject matter in advance.
• Follow professional interpreting standards and ethical guidelines.
• Attend training sessions and maintain required certifications.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; associate''s or bachelor''s degree preferred.
• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL).
• Knowledge of Deaf culture and effective communication practices.
• Strong interpersonal, listening, and communication skills.
• Ability to interpret accurately and impartially.
• Certification through the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) or equivalent certification preferred.
• Ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
