Interpreter-Spanish – Outpatient Speech Therapy (Pediatrics)
Position Summary
Under general supervision, the Interpreter provides accurate and effective translation of both written and spoken communication between languages. This role supports outpatient pediatric speech therapy services by facilitating clear communication between clinicians, patients, and families. Depending on the setting, translation may be consecutive or simultaneous and may require subject-specific knowledge.
Key Responsibilities
- Translate written documents and materials while maintaining accuracy in meaning, grammar, tone, and context.
- Provide in-person or virtual interpretation during therapy sessions, meetings, and consultations.
- Listen attentively to spoken communication and relay messages clearly and accurately between languages.
- Deliver either consecutive or simultaneous interpretation, depending on the needs of the situation.
- Prepare for sessions by reviewing relevant materials and terminology to ensure subject-matter understanding.
- Support effective communication between therapists, patients, and caregivers in pediatric settings.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Skills & Abilities
- Fluency in English and applicable foreign language(s).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in translation of written and spoken content.
- Excellent listening and comprehension skills.
- Familiarity with medical or therapy-related terminology (preferred).
- Ability to maintain accuracy under time-sensitive conditions.
Work Environment
- Primarily outpatient clinical setting focused on pediatric therapy.
- Standard office/clinic environment.
- Minimal physical effort required.
- Limited exposure to physical risk.
Requirements
- Minimum of 1 year of directly related experience in interpretation or translation.
- Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
