Job Opportunity: Interventional Radiologist

Our organization is on the lookout for a dedicated Interventional Radiologist to enhance our expanding practice in Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia. We are a clinic-focused interventional radiology group that delivers comprehensive, minimally invasive treatments throughout the Appalachian Highlands.

Our physicians primarily operate at a 445-bed Level I Trauma Center, recognized as a Stroke Center of Excellence, while also providing support to Niswonger Children's Hospital and various other facilities within the Ballad Health system.

Our practice model is tailored to enable physicians to concentrate on intricate interventions, clinical care, and the growth of our programs. A skilled team of five Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) manages inpatient consultations and performs a variety of procedures, fostering an efficient workflow that allows physicians to focus on advanced procedures and outpatient care.

Key Features of Our Practice
  • Clinic-based interventional radiology model with expanding outpatient services
  • Dedicated APP team assisting with inpatient consultations and procedures
  • Practice across multiple hospitals within the Ballad Health network
  • Opportunities for program expansion
  • Collaborative relationship with hospital leadership committed to supporting IR growth

The Appalachian Highlands provide an outstanding quality of life, with convenient access to the Blue Ridge Mountains, outdoor activities, vibrant arts communities, and excellent educational institutions, all within a short drive from Asheville, Knoxville, and Bristol.

This role is perfect for physicians eager to develop a strong clinical interventional radiology practice while enhancing access to minimally invasive care in a rural area that highly values this specialty.

Clinical Responsibilities
  • Conduct a wide array of interventional radiology procedures, including oncology treatments (Y-90, chemoembolization), gastrointestinal and biliary interventions, genitourinary and urological procedures, peripheral arterial and venous interventions, complex trauma embolization, musculoskeletal embolization, biopsies, drainages, and other image-guided procedures.
  • Opportunity to receive training in stroke thrombectomy, with significant additional compensation for participation in stroke call.
  • IR call rotation is limited to one site (Johnson City Medical Center), shared among physicians at a ratio of 1:3 to 1:5.
  • Work closely with APPs, fellow physicians, and hospital teams to provide coordinated, high-quality care.
  • Engage actively in service line expansion, education, and clinical innovation.
Compensation & Benefits
  • Base salary of $600,000, with additional earnings for stroke call coverage.
  • Signing bonus of $50,000 along with a relocation allowance.
  • 14 weeks of vacation each year.
  • Comprehensive health, malpractice, and disability insurance for the physician and their family.
  • Defined-contribution 401(k) plan with employer contributions.
  • Corporate-funded Health Savings Account (HSA) and continuing medical education (CME) allowance.
  • No state income tax in Tennessee.
Qualifications
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Interventional Radiology (ABR or AOBR).
  • Eligible for medical licenses in Tennessee and Virginia.
  • Proficient in the full spectrum of interventional radiology procedures.
  • Willingness to learn advanced stroke thrombectomy techniques (training will be provided).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a collaborative, team-oriented mindset.
  • A spirit of service, curiosity, and a commitment to growth, with a passion for delivering high-quality interventional radiology care to rural Appalachia.
