Job Description

Position Reference: 01CLFCV016

CLF Consultants LLC seeks a board certified or board eligible interventional radiologist for a full-time, on-site appointment at a Department of Veterans Affairs medical center in the Bronx, New York. This is a dedicated position, not a rotation and not a per-diem panel seat. The physician in this role serves one facility, one patient population, and one service line.

The patient population is veterans, many of them older, with complex vascular, oncologic, and hepatobiliary disease. The case mix is genuine interventional work rather than screening throughput, performed in an established hospital radiology department with its own angiography suite, technologists, and nursing staff, to American College of Radiology practice standards.

The appointment is designed for an interventional radiologist who wants to focus on specialty practice without many of the production and business pressures that surround it elsewhere. There are no relative value unit production targets, no partnership buy-in, no billing exposure, and no competition for block time. Call is defined and shared rather than open-ended, call-in activations are paid on top of salary, and the schedule is predictable enough to plan a life around.

As a CLFC-employed physician supporting a federal healthcare environment, your compensation is aligned to the New York metropolitan physician market while the clinical practice environment remains federal.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform diagnostic and therapeutic interventional radiology procedures for an adult veteran population, including angiography and angioplasty, embolization, central and peripheral line and port placement, IVC filter placement and retrieval, biopsy and drainage, and image-guided oncologic intervention within the scope of the hospital service.
  • Provide image-guided procedural care to American College of Radiology practice standards and to the accreditation and quality requirements of the hospital radiology department.
  • Interpret and report on procedures performed, and document within the facility clinical record and imaging systems to the timeliness standards of the service.
  • Carry a defined and shared on-call obligation for urgent and emergent interventional cases, including gastrointestinal bleeding, trauma embolization, and acute vascular presentations.
  • Obtain and document informed consent, conduct pre-procedure assessment and risk stratification, and manage post-procedure care and complications in coordination with referring services.
  • Collaborate with diagnostic radiology, vascular surgery, oncology, hepatology, and critical care services on procedure selection and case planning.
  • Participate in the radiology department quality assurance, peer review, and morbidity and mortality processes.
  • Maintain licensure, board standing, continuing medical education, and hospital privileging in good standing throughout the engagement.

Required Qualifications

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited medical school.
  • Board certified or board eligible in Interventional Radiology, or in Diagnostic Radiology with Vascular and Interventional Radiology subspecialty certification, through the American Board of Radiology or the American Osteopathic Board of Radiology.
  • Completion of an ACGME accredited residency and interventional radiology fellowship or integrated IR residency.
  • Active, current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in at least one United States jurisdiction. A New York State license is not required. The Department of Veterans Affairs operates as a national health system and its practitioners may practice at any VA facility on a valid license from any state.
  • Current DEA registration, or eligibility to obtain it.
  • Demonstrated independent procedural competence across the core interventional radiology case mix described above.
  • Current BLS and ACLS certification.
  • Eligible to be credentialed and privileged at a federal medical facility, including satisfactory background investigation, and eligible to work in the United States.
  • Able to work on-site in the northwest Bronx on a full-time basis and to participate in the on-call rotation.

Strongly Preferred Qualifications

  • Existing or prior privileges at a Department of Veterans Affairs, Department of Defense, or other federal medical facility.
  • A current New York State medical license already in hand, which simplifies onboarding although it is not required.
  • Prior experience in an academic or tertiary hospital interventional radiology service.
  • Subspecialty depth in interventional oncology, hepatobiliary intervention, or complex peripheral arterial disease.
  • Experience with an established interventional radiology call service and urgent case triage.
  • Familiarity with veteran health, including the vascular and oncologic burden common to an older veteran population.

Compensation and Engagement Details

  • Annual salary base range: $495,000 to $515,000 (W-2 full-time with benefits), set by experience, subspecialty depth, and board standing.
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Paid time off and the federal holiday schedule.
  • 401(k) eligibility after the qualifying period.
  • Continuing medical education support and professional development, including society membership and conference attendance.
  • Licensure, DEA, and board maintenance costs supported.
  • No relative value unit production targets, no billing or collections exposure, and no partnership buy-in.
  • On-call structure, stated plainly so there is nothing to discover later. Scheduled call coverage, meaning carrying the pager during your assigned rotation, is included in the annual salary. You are not asked to carry uncompensated availability beyond the published rotation.
  • Call-in activations are compensated separately from salary. When you are called in and physically return to the facility, that activation is paid at $300 per hour with a two-hour minimum, in addition to base salary. A one-hour case pays $600. A four-hour case pays $1,200.
  • Call is shared across the credentialed team on a published rotation set in advance, not assigned week to week, and colleagues on the team carry your planned absence.
  • Facility equipment, angiography suite, technologist and nursing support, imaging systems, and clinical record access are furnished at the site. You bring your credentials, not a practice.
  • CLFC administrative support for credentialing, privileging, and licensure coordination with the facility.
  • Multi-year engagement potential aligned to a federal contract structured as a base year plus option years.
