Position Summary

The Interventional Radiology Technologist supports invasive angiographic and interventional radiology procedures in a fast-paced clinical environment. This position is responsible for providing high-quality imaging support, assisting with patient preparation and monitoring, and performing both scrub and circulating responsibilities during procedures.

The ideal candidate will have strong Interventional Radiology experience, particularly with vascular, stroke, and trauma procedures.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform specialized radiographic and fluoroscopic imaging for interventional and angiographic procedures under physician direction.

• Prepare patients for procedures and explain procedures in an appropriate and professional manner.

• Assist with invasive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.

• Perform scrub and circulating responsibilities as assigned.

• Monitor patient comfort and safety throughout procedures.

• Obtain and prepare supplies, medications, contrast materials, and other procedural resources as directed by authorized clinical personnel.

• Assist with catheter and sheath removal and apply appropriate pressure or closure techniques.

• Provide accurate procedure-related information to the appropriate nursing or holding area.

• Document hemodynamic information, contrast usage, charges, and other required procedural data accurately and promptly.

• Enter patient and inventory information into applicable department systems.

• Process and route imaging studies for physician review.

• Identify and report equipment malfunctions to department leadership or appropriate technical personnel.

• Maintain compliance with radiation safety, infection prevention, patient safety, and departmental standards.

Required Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program or accredited Interventional Radiology program.

• ARRT (R) certification required.

• BLS certification required through an approved provider.

• Strong Interventional Radiology experience preferred.

• Candidates with Cath Lab Imaging experience may also be considered.

• Experience with vascular and interventional procedures strongly preferred.

• Experience with stroke and trauma cases is highly desirable.

• Experience in a high-acuity or Level I Trauma/Comprehensive Stroke environment is preferred.

Preferred Experience

• Approximately 1 year of diagnostic radiology experience.

• Approximately 1 year of Interventional Radiology experience.

• Experience with:

  • Stroke procedures

  • Trauma cases

  • Vascular procedures

  • Line placements

  • Central lines

  • Interventional radiology procedures

• Strong vascular and IR technical competencies.

Note: Candidates with only general X-ray experience and no meaningful Interventional Radiology background may not be a strong fit.

RCIS Candidates

RCIS candidates may also be considered, particularly those with experience working in a high-volume hospital environment and exposure to complex cardiac or vascular cases.

Schedule

Multiple scheduling options may be available, including:

• Weekday schedules

• Four 10-hour shifts

• Three 12-hour shifts

• Primarily third-shift opportunities

• Weekend, holiday, and on-call rotations may be required.

On-Call Requirement

The position participates in a backup call rotation. The technologist may be called in when an additional emergent procedure team is required.

Candidates must be able to respond within the required call-response area when assigned to call.

Patient Population

• Primarily adult patients

• Limited pediatric exposure

• Inpatient and outpatient populations

• High-acuity and emergent cases may be encountered

Physical & Work Environment

• Frequent standing and walking during procedures.

• Ability to work while wearing approximately 10–15 pounds of lead radiation protection equipment.

• Exposure to radiation, blood, and bodily fluids.

• Ability to work in confined procedural areas.

• Good visual acuity and manual dexterity required.

• Strong hand-eye coordination necessary for operating specialized imaging equipment.

• Ability to maintain continuous concentration during complex procedures.

• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

• Strong patient-care and communication skills
