INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY TECH - INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY

Status: PRN - As Needed

Shift: Day shift as needed. Rotating call on weeknights, weekends, and holidays.

Summary:

Performs duties associated with the operation of Special Interventional Procedures and Diagnostic Radiology in accordance with established professional and departmental standards and procedures.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill set, and/or ability required.

1. Graduate of an accredited program in radiological technology required.
2. Must be licensed by the Louisiana State Radiologic Technology Board of Examiners (LSRTBE) and certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT).
3. Completed American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
4. Minimum experience of two years as a registered Radiologic Technologist with two years minimum experience in Special Procedures preferred.

• Works the assigned schedule, including call as required.

Responsibilities:

Demonstrates a complete working knowledge of all radiographic equipment used for Interventional Radiology and intra-procedural imaging. c. Performs visual inspection of equipment, identifies problems, and communicates to immediate supervisor. e. Reviews physician orders, checking for special instructions from requesting physician and consults with the radiologist as necessary. f. Ability to anticipate and meet the needs and expectations of customers. i. Contact the Interventional Radiology Supervisor/Manager for equipment service issues as appropriate. j. Participates in appropriate education and on-the-job learning situations to develop necessary job skills. k. Demonstrates the ability to perform multiple tasks as required. l. • Demonstrates anatomy under investigation through proper patient positioning and administers contrast media according to the department policy and procedure manual.
• Obtains patient history and clinical data for correlation with the scans.
• Maintains necessary inventory of supplies for assigned room, rotating stock in an orderly fashion, and eliminating outdated items.
• Ensures all equipment is in good working condition.

Modality Specific Duties:

• Performs all Special Procedures as assigned.
• Demonstrates anatomy under investigation through proper patient positioning and utilizes ACR guidelines to obtain properly positioned images.
• Obtains patient history and clinical data for correlation with the images.
• Assists physician/PA in Special Procedures while maintaining sterile technique.
• Performs visual preventive safety inspections on all equipment, identifies problems, and communicates to immediate supervisor.
• Assists in the movement of patients as necessary.
• Recognizes emergency situations, initiates code procedures, and administers first aid or BLS CPR&AED as needed.
• Primarily responsible for post-procedural hemostasis.
• Must be able to assist and deploy vascular hemostasis devices.
• Responsible for assistance in vessel selection, catheter, and wire techniques and be familiar with all catheters, guidewires, and any other medical device that may be used.
• Works in Diagnostic Radiology during Interventional downtime.
