We are seeking a talented and detail-oriented Cost Accountant to join our finance and accounting team in Los Angeles. The Cost Accountant will play an important role in supporting inventory accounting, product costing, COGS, gross margin analysis, reconciliations, and month-end close. What You'll Do
- Manage and analyze inventory and product cost accounting.
- Perform inventory reconciliations and investigate variances.
- Analyze COGS, gross margins, product costs, and inventory movements.
- Prepare monthly journal entries and supporting schedules.
- Reconcile inventory subledgers to the general ledger.
- Analyze purchase price, freight, duties, and other costs impacting product margins.
- Support monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes.
- Assist with inventory counts, cycle counts, and related adjustments.
- Prepare financial reports and management analysis.
- Partner with purchasing, merchandising, operations, and finance teams to resolve discrepancies.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
- Assist with internal and external audits.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls, and reporting.
- Perform ad hoc financial and cost analysis as needed.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 2+ years of accounting experience, preferably within retail, consumer products, distribution, or another inventory-focused environment.
- Solid understanding of GAAP and accounting principles.
- Experience with inventory accounting and COGS.
- Strong Excel skills, including PivotTables and XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP.
- Experience with an ERP or accounting system.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and organization.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Strong communication skills and a commitment to accuracy.
