Role Summary
The Inventory Cost Accountant will play a critical role in supporting inventory valuation, cost accounting, financial reporting, and month end close activities. This position works closely with accounting and operational teams to ensure inventory accuracy, maintain costing structures, and support financial reporting requirements.
The ideal candidate will have experience in manufacturing accounting environments, strong analytical abilities, and a solid understanding of inventory accounting principles. This role offers significant exposure to inventory operations, ERP systems, audit activities, and corporate accounting functions.
Key Responsibilities
Participate in month end close procedures related to inventory valuation and costing activities
Review inventory receiving transactions for accuracy and prepare related journal entries
Maintain standard costs and Bills of Materials for manufactured products
Reconcile inventory related general ledger accounts and investigate variances
Create and maintain Access databases, reports, and queries to support accounting analysis
Review financial statements and general ledger activity for accuracy and completeness
Maintain documentation supporting inventory values and standard costing procedures
Assist with audit preparation and provide supporting schedules throughout the year
Participate in inventory cycle count audits and support plant inventory reviews as needed
Key Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
Minimum 2 years of accounting or finance experience within a manufacturing environment
Experience with inventory accounting, cost accounting, and general ledger reconciliations
Experience working within a large ERP environment
Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting
Advanced Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Access skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and meet deadlines
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Comfortable working onsite five days per week
Preferred Skills
Experience with JD Edwards
Experience with Power BI reporting and analysis
Experience maintaining standard costs and Bills of Materials
Exposure to inventory cycle counts and audit activities
Experience working with database reporting tools
Self-motivated individual with strong initiative and accountability
