Duties Description The New York State Insurance Fund (NYSIF), Division of Confidential Investigations (DCI), is among the most active special investigations units in the country, working with local, state, and federal authorities in the investigation, arrest, indictment, and prosecution of individuals and businesses suspected of fraud involving NYSIF. DCIs mission is to reduce instances of insurance fraud and abuse against NYSIF and to prevent and mitigate fraud. DCI is comprised of four separate units: Claims Fraud, Provider Fraud, Premium Fraud, and Data Analytics.
Reporting through the supervisory chain, the Investigative Officer 1 (SIF) will serve as an entry-level investigator assigned to support and conduct workers compensation fraud investigations throughout the state. The IO1 will receive guidance from the Team Supervisor, Investigative Officer 3, Investigative Officer 2, and other DCI leadership while developing foundational investigative skills, learning DCI procedures, and assisting with the preparation of complete, accurate, and well-supported investigative materials.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
partners, prosecutors, insurance fraud officials, and other external stakeholders to support case development and fraud prevention. • Apply developing knowledge of workers compensation law, fraud indicators, investigative techniques, and evidentiary requirements to support complete and accurate investigations.
Minimum Qualifications • Five years of insurance claims or law enforcement investigation experience or professional investigation experience with law enforcement agencies; OR
Substitutions: An associate's degree in criminal justice or related field may substitute for two years of qualifying experience. A bachelor's degree in criminal justice or related field may substitute for four years of qualifying experience.
This position requires frequent travel, you are required to maintain a valid driver's license while employed in this position.

For candidates new to NYS, the starting salary for this position will be the bottom of the range displayed and is not subject to negotiation. For candidates that are current NYS employees, salaries are calculated in accordance with NYS Civil Service Law, OSC Payroll rules and regulations, and negotiated union contracts.
