About the organization:
Our client is one of the world's largest law firms and they looking for a talented Patent Agent to join our dynamic Intellectual Property & Technology (IP&T) practice. Our client needs someone with a bachelor's degree (and preferably an advanced degree) in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related field-plus at least 5 years of significant hands-on experience as a patent agent in drafting and prosecuting patent applications. Our clients span a wide range of technologies, so versatility, adaptability, curiosity and openness to learning is a must. If you're ready to hit the ground running and make an immediate impact, this role is for you. You'll collaborate with our close-knit team of partners, counsels, associates, and patent agents on exciting, high-stakes inventions, taking on responsibilities such as:
  • Harvesting inventions directly from clients
  • Advising clients on invention disclosures, patent strategy, and prosecution
  • Evaluating cutting-edge technology
  • Drafting and prosecuting US patent applications
  • Guiding prosecution of foreign patent applications
  • Contributing to opinion work
  • Client counseling
  • Supporting litigation efforts
  • Providing hands-on technical support across the practice

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must be registered to practice before the US Patent and Trademark Office
  • At least 5 years as a patent agent at a law firm or in-house; ready to contribute from day one
  • Minimum of 5 years of real estate experience required, preferably in a law firm setting, an in-house legal department or a title company.
  • Title and survey proficiency is required.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and an ability to prioritize and complete simultaneous projects with minimal supervision are essential.
  • Must have superior client service and communication skills.
  • Must have the ability to meet deadlines and work well under pressure.
  • Must have the ability to interact and work productively with all levels of lawyers, paraprofessionals and business services team members.
  • Must demonstrate strong verbal, written, analytical, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain discretion and privacy with confidential matters and documents.
  • Ability to recognize and comprehend facts and legal concepts.
  • Strong computer technical skills and demonstrated ability to learn new technologies.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, PDF creation tool(s), document management software and Elite or other timekeeping software is required.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related field-advanced degree preferred; must be adaptive and versatile across technologies; experience with software patents is a plus
  • Large and sophisticated transaction experience is preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • This position is generally performed in a professional office setting; 70% sitting, 20% standing, and 10% walking
  • This position routinely utilizes standard office equipment such as laptops, computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets, in a home office as well as an in-person office environment.
  • Ability to lift/move up to 20 pounds.
